Best way to listen to music?

2 posts in this topic

Okay so I've been watching Leo for the past 2 years now. I have imployed numerous practices from from him and only now for the past 2 months I started noticing changes. No in a physical sense but more like a "recontextualization" as he explained in that peculiar video. It's not much, it's a very subtle difference and it's not even there most of the time unless I really focus in on it.

Anyways, from what I learned for the past two years is that I daydream, ALOT. For my whole life I daydream mostly movies, stories from books, TV and especially music. It took over I say 96% of my life. I have a weird gift where I can play music in my head from start to finish with amazing musical memory. Most of my life I figured it was a good thing because I'm a musician and have a great passion for it. In a way it is a good thing.

But like with everything it needs moderation and it completely took control of my life, I didn't even realize this. Anyways so far my journey for the past year is staying in the present moment, and I'm just now realizing just how fucking hard it is. It's like my ego is actively trying to sabotage my attempts to see how things really are. For example whenever I listen to music, my mind automatically tries to put a fake story behind it, like I'm the singer singing it, or that it's a video soundtrack or literally ANYTHING that's not what's actually happening. It's gotten so bad that my mind is so fixated on the story that my emotions gets buried behind it, and of course music without emotions defeats the purpose of music.

The point is I'm Having trouble connecting emotions to the music. I love music so I want to get the most juice out of it. What are your guys ways on listening to music. What techniques and practices can I use to get the best experience out of it? I listened to music on psychedelics and it's so amazing, but of course I lose the high and my music intelligence goes back to being "muddy" is the best way I can describe.

I want to listen to music in a way I hear it on psychedelics, is that possible? If so I would love the practices and techniques, I will do anything to have this ability.

  1. Practice synesthesia.

Holy shit you can do that?? Any practices or sources that would help me with this? Your other tips are really useful, the deep and complex pieces is what inspire me for music in the first place. Thanks so much!
