Staphylococcus aureus in nose

12 posts in this topic

I've been fighting this bacteria for 3 years now, but they keep coming back. I get symptoms - antibiotics therapy - symptoms disappear for some time - then they come back again... and so on and on and on.

I just got the results of my nasal swab and I'm positive on this bacteria again - 90%!! In addition to antibiotics, I also tried a saline solution with 1% hydrogen peroxide. I really don't know what to do anymore.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Any advice on how to get rid of them once and for all?

What symptoms do you suffer?

Sometimes staphylococcus can be latent and not present symptoms.

Dry scabby nostrils with small sores. Due to postnasal drip bacteria get to my throat and cause bad breath.

Lately, I've been getting nosebleeds more often. I'm not sure if this infection is the reason, but it wouldn't surprise me.

@Mz Hyde sometimes stress causes nose bleeds.

Don't medicate this. Since staph is a normal bacterium. You'll always test positive for it, it's a part of our flora.

It's like dealing with yeast

You could make it worse with antibiotics.

Just let it go and don't worry about it.

Maybe after a few months your body will adjust to that, the bacteria will then stop producing any symptoms and readjust with your skin flora.

Right now don't try antibiotics. Just let it die down on its own

I had a severe yeast infection a few years ago and it went away on its own

The thing is that these regular bacteria and sometimes they are out of control and need time assimilate back into the system.

That's why your antibiotics aren't working and it keeps coming back.

You can't medicate regular bacteria.

Unless it's too severe.

I already tried this, but they wouldn't go away and I would have to do something about it eventually.

Well it is.. it makes 90% of my nose flora which isn't quite normal.

Does nose steaming help?

Nope, tried that as well. The only thing that helps besides antibiotics is 1% hydrogen peroxide in saline (guess it kills some of the bacteria), but it's not a long term solution.

Could this be happening to you?

Just a second.  Wait for the video to load.

@Mz Hyde talk to your doctor about MRSA and nasal decolonization

You'll have to meet an infection specialist or a doctor that deals with respiratory symptoms.

Because it's a long term issue and I think you'll need specialized long term treatment for it go away with time. It will be something apart from your antibiotics.

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this. I don't know much about it so I tried to gather whatever resources I came across.

I hope it gets resolved and you find relief

Such things are frustrating to deal with.
