The ego is truly amazing!

14 posts in this topic

The ego is truly amazing at what it does! There's no denying that.

The ego wants to ensure its own survival and the survival of its host.

The ego's biggest enemies are other egos. When other egos attack the ego it will defend itself and it has an impressive armory at its disposal. There is denial, aggression, manipulation, rationalisations, lying, status games, putting others down and many more.

The ego has endless creativity to achieve its goals.

When an ego doesn't like the view of another ego, in most cases it doesn't matter how well the other ego argues for its point of view. The ego will go to tremendous lengths to disprove the view of the other ego and in the process of doing so it will apply some of the strategies already mentioned above, especially denial.

It is painful for the ego to admit to another ego that it was wrong about something, so it tries to find ways around doing that.

The ego can mature and improve.

Anyway, even though the ego is far from perfect I feel like it deserves some recognition and validation. It doesn't have an easy job and all in all it's fulfilling its purpose rather well.

Egos deserve some love too. So don't be too strict with your own ego and give it a clap on the shoulder every once in a while, too!

Ok, that was it. If your ego wants to, then it can add to this thread, or not add anything. Or it can criticize me/my ego, but then be prepared for war! ???

Attacking the ego never works, yet we keep doing it ;).

Sure. What do you find most fascinating about the ego?

Hmm...that it was this made up thing that we held dear to..and in an instant you can get rid of it if you want, just let it go, like a hat.

Cool! But it doesn't it come back at some point? How is the ego different after returning, once it was gone for some time?

At first when you try to. It takes practice I guess. Especially notice when you're getting worked up about something.. that's the opportunity to practice letting it go and notice the additional layer being added to your true self. Letting it go may be harder at first than just noticing it.

Well it would be seen as not real. And an act you're doing (maybe for others sometimes and for "practical reasons" to get by).

Man, it's SO intelligent how ego works.

The sneakiness. It works in the shadows. The ego is so subtle, it's very hard to pinpoint its influence on your sensemaking.

Denial. Oversimplification of reality. Conceptualization of everything. This is literally the perfect way to maintain sanity. The antidote to infinity ;)

Viewing things always in relation to itself.

Infinite capacity for denial and blindness.

Ingenious defense mechanisms.

It's perfect xD

We could accuse the ego of a lot of things, but we could never deny that the ego is an absolute master of its craft! :)

I like the ego. It doesn’t need to be an enemy. Allow it to dissolve

any time you want things to stay the same, that's the ego

also if someone asks you a question and you give them the same answer you gave someone else, that's the ego

so a good exercise is to say, what was different today and did i help it to be different or did i resist it

habits can be helpful but also unhelpful, do the same things but do them in different ways, ego wants to do things with eyes tightly shut

The ego was never an enemy it was created for a reason, it has a purpose. Calling the ego an enemy is like saying the foot is an enemy. It has come into my awareness that many on the spiritual path do not understand why the ego is described as a barrier to God realization and think the ego is evil.

The ego will never be dissolved because the ego is God. God is one with its creation there is no duality.

One would reply but the ego is imaginary. This is true, but so is your foot, so is your hands, etc... You want to dissolve your hands? You want to make an enemy of your hands?

The ego is like a computer in your head. It speaks, it processes sensations, and crafts a story. Through the story it creates a character that you feel is you. Since at your core you are not just some story and sensations you have to transcend the ego to connect with what you are. But the ego is not going to disappear anymore than your foot is going to disappear. To have no ego is to have no form. To have no form/ego is to have no life.

God is infinite ego=no ego.

Your life is one of the infinite egos that you are currently living through. So to dissolve that ego completely is to end that life. Life=ego, reality=ego. Once you truly understand this....then it all makes sense.

I'll give one last example.

Spiderman the character was created by Stan Lee. Spiderman realizing himself as God is realizing he is Stan Lee. Even though Spiderman has now realizes his life is imaginary, he will still be Peter Parker and may still choose to be Spider-Man but he is awake to the fact that he is Stan Lee. He knows when he dies he will return to being Stan Lee (the creator of Marvel).

That's it. For Spiderman (which is an ego) to dissolve, he would need to cease being Spider Man. If he were to enter God Consciousness he would become Stan Lee and realize why he crafted the story he did for Spider-Man. The villains, the victims, the whole Marvel Universe. Then he will return to his baseline awareness with full acceptance of his life as Peter Parker/Spider man.

You are a selfless LACK OF APPEARANCE, that CONSTRUCTS AN APPEARANCE. But that appearance can disappear and reappear and we call that change, we call it time, we call it space, we call it distance, we call distinctness, we call it other. But notice...this appearance, is a SELF. A SELF IS A CONSTRUCTION!!!

So if you want to know the TRUTH OF THE CONSTRUCTION. Just deconstruct the construction!!!! No point in playing these mind games!!! No point in creating needless complexity!!! The truth of what you are is a BLANK!!!! A selfless awareness....then that means there is NO OTHER, and everything you have ever perceived was JUST AN APPEARANCE, A MIRAGE, AN ILLUSION, IMAGINARY.

Everything that appears....appears out of a lack of appearance/void/no-thing, non-sense (can't be sensed because there is nothing to sense). That is what you are, and what arises...is made of that. So nonexistence, arises/creates existence. And thus everything is solved.
