Is This What Intuition Is?

@JustASimpleBuggler <3  No problem!
The feeling in your chest might be your heart guiding you to something new that you might enjoy.
I think it could be intuition.  Leo's content takes a while to pick up on.  I still don't understand everything he's saying. :P

My personal understanding of how intuition works:
Something inside your soul will speak to you and it will feel emotional and it is often an important message.

A big part of self actualization is to listen to your heart.  Sometimes there will be a strong feeling, and sometimes there will be a very small "quiet" feeling.  It's one of the only feelings you can truly trust to guide you on your journey. <3

A good way to get started in self-actualizing is when that feeling arises, is to follow it where it wants to go.  That might be your starting point.

Example:
So, for me, repetition is really important when it comes to understanding new content.  I also need to see the lesson laid out visually, I need to be able read it, and I have to do the task physically in order for it to sink in.  And often I have to repeat these steps.
But here's the thing:  I enjoy it because I am following that feeling in my heart, my own intuition.
So it does not feel mundane or mind numbing - I love it!  It's fun!  And also sometimes hard.

@Whywolf OK, well I'm probably around that ground zero area still when it comes to all this stuff, obviously I have that "intuition" feeling about it, but that's really it at this point. I don't even know where to really begin, I'm not sure if there is an exact "starting point" for beginners.

Basically a lot of self actualization work is uncovering things about yourself that aren't true, and coming to an understanding of who you really are.  Now the biggest thing is that in order to start out on your own path, you would have to follow your personal intuition - what feels right in your heart in that moment.  This will actually make learning the content less mind numbing and mundane.
I'm having a hard time explaining, because I don't want my ideas to influence your personal journey - because they come from my journey, my experiences and perceptions of you - which are not accurate.
I'll give you some suggestions here on some areas you could get started - but what is important is to follow that feeling in your heart and work on what you want to when you feel ready.

Suggestions:

(These are only as accurate as my very limited understanding of who you are as a person.)

Something to look in to:
You are misinformed by thinking you aren't intelligent.  Your dad tried to teach you a new skill using repetition in a way that you found boring and then verbally shamed you for not getting it right when you were trying to learn that new skill.

A few different viewpoints:
1. There are many different ways of learning, and you can use a mixture of these different methods to understand new ideas no matter where you are at.  You could research studying techniques, and all of the different and unique ways people process their world.  It's kind of a rainbow, there is no right or wrong way.
2.  When your dad was teaching you how to use nunchucks, he was actually supposed to teach you according to your style of learning.  So if you found that repetition to be mind numbing and mundane, then it is probably not your learning style - but your fathers learning style that you inherited from him.  See?  He was teaching you according to how he thought you should learn, because that's how HE learns.  See?
3.  When a kid is shamed for trying, those feelings will often stick and it can create a complex later in life.  This is called a "double bind" or "damned if you do, damned if you don't."
4.  Getting acquainted with personal learning styles is beneficial for all people, if that is something you feel is holding you back and that you are missing - look into it, but only when your heart tells you to.

And then from there, you could question, "Well, why doesn't my dad understand different ways to teach?  Why did he get frustrated with me?"
And then perhaps your intuition would make you question, "What causes frustration in people?"
And then from there, "What is the whole spectrum of human emotion?"
"Why do humans have emotions?"
"How did humans evolve emotionally?"
"How does evolution work?"
And so on, and so on.  Eventually in these questions you might find the answers that will make up a bigger picture of yourself, your history, and an even bigger understanding of that history in relation to everyone around you.

And so, it literally just starts with something like that.  A feeling in your heart - intuition - and you just follow it around like a dog on a lead.

This is just an example.  If this example doesn't make you feel like you need to look into it (that feeling in your heart), then your intuition isn't there, and that means that it probably isn't time to look there quite yet.  A good way to know is to look around on the forum here and see what sticks out and creates that feeling of wanting to know more.

So... yeah... sorry for the long explanation!

Tips I have found on cultivating/maintaining intuition:
1.  Always keep an open mind, intuition comes from curiosity and wonder, so if you close yourself off to an idea you might miss out on intuition showing you something important.
2.  Stay calm.  Intuition shows itself best in a calm, relaxed state.
3.  Question the origin of any negative self beliefs and emotions.
4.  Music and movie clips are good to use to explain a state of mind or come to understand it better.
5.  Being humble can really help, too.
6.  Learning to love yourself, and treat yourself as a child helps a lot - especially when inquiring about something that might be uncomfortable.

@JustASimpleBuggler The path isn't the circumstances, it's the thoughts your choosing. If you focus or think from a place of fear, or about what you are afraid of, you may be going about it wrong. You may be laying resistant thought to what you want that you will have to let go of. To the extent I keep my focus on what I want, I reach it.

@Whywolf Alright, this is pretty in depth. If I find myself in a better place mentally in my life I think it will come in handy, thank you. When i feel I can handle all this.

Also, my dad made me repeat something because I wasn't getting what he showed me the first few times, he was frustrated by how I wasn't getting it quickly enough i guess and I was a really slow learner so he got me to repeat it until I finally got it, and I did eventually. The frustration came from him being a faster learner then me and me being slow. I'm probably like that gif to be honest when it comes to my brain power.

@Nahm So you're saying not to focus on your fear and just focus on the thing you want? Put simply?

That is what I'm doing. :)

Not trying to be critical....but that's what I'm doing, minus the part about not focusing on the fear. Not focusing on something is focusing on it. There is only love, compassion and evidence.

For sure!  There are a lot of people here much further along on the path than me that would be better qualified to give you advice about this sort of stuff as well - mine was a pretty long-winded explanation, tbh. <3 I feel like it probably could have been summarized.

Summary:
I am assuming that whatever feels right at the right time for you, look into it.
It can be kind of intimidating at first (it was for me), but it does get easier.
And it will most likely be when your heart/intuition wants you to look into it.

And it could be anything and any subject or experience in the world that starts the process.  So when you feel it again (intuition), def. try and listen to what it's telling you. <3

@Whywolf This has kind of got me thinking, if this feeling I get isn't intuition but "fear". Like afraid of what will happen if I don't follow something, if that makes any sense. Like doing it out of some kind of fear. :/

Thanks for your responses though, you didn't have to bother but you did anyway so thank you for that.

@Nahm Hmmmm o.O So when it comes too "being scared" don't focus on the fear don't not focus on the fear, but just simply be ?

You just be with your fear until it goes away?

@JustASimpleBuggler

It's okay to be afraid, nothing wrong with that.

Working through a lot of those same fears myself, actually.  <3
This woman has some great advice for getting through it.  I have a bunch of material saved up from the past two years, so if you have any questions I might have some helpful videos saved in my collections that could be of benefit to you.

Intuition is taking a bath and having some nice idea randomly that you totally are surprised to have. Intuition is dreams during the night time. intuition is turn off your screens at a busy day in the work , and taking a walk at the park, and letting your thoughts drift free.

well, it can be found in those moments at least.

When I feel like I'm ready I'll watch all these videos seriously, a lot of stuff to get into my brain here, and I don't have a lot of mental energy as it is.

Thanks  :)
