How to lock in the desire for truth?

The desire for truth is a very strong motivator for me, but it comes and goes. Sometimes, it is absent completely, I really struggled during those times. I've tried visualization, but it's a little tricky when comes to something like the truth, i don't know what to visualize, it failed to generate the motivation. But when the desire is present, I don't need any visualization whatsoever, right actions are easy. what exactly is happening here? Is there any way to lock in the desire for truth? Do I have to exhaust all of my other desire?
