Executing Emotional Labor

10 posts in this topic

So executing emotional labor is something I suck at. Especially when studying. My focus goes out the window while I'm studying. I'm either thinking about the film that I watched or am distracted by the dandruff in my head. My subjects are highly fascinating an I love them. When I do put the emotional labor trust me I'm the happiest person on the planet. I love learning and I mean every bit of it the problem is putting the emotional labor. Sitting for long hours, being patient etc.

This isn't just with education but also with porn diet self esteem  and MEDITATION! and this is really getting on my nerves for its a huge block in my personal development journey.

Is action the answer? Always?

Contemplating the root of your resistance can be valuable.

Contemplate: Why am I creating these emotions? What's the bottom line? What role is this resistance serving?

But you gotta contemplate very self-honestly. Surface-level intellectual answers will not suffice.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

You're adding in the labor thinking and feeling. If it's hard to just sit there then don't just sit there. Make it fun. Make everything fun. Start excercising and mediatating daily if possible. It will keep you calm and focused and you'll get more enjoyment out of everything.

It is exercising and meditating which isn't a lot of "fun" for me since you have to literally exercise a lotta willpower. I suppose the "fun" phase really begins once you're a bit comfortable and moving with the flow. How do you make it enjoyable for yourself anyway?

Thats up to you!  Maybe set up a reward system.  Also, take timed breaks.  Work for 2 hours, break for 15 minutes.  I find timers to be extremely helpful.  Set a goal to accomplish a certain amount in an hour, then surpass your goal.  Caution: speed without accuracy is nothing.

@Posho How to make it fun-

It's got to be your fun. But here's a misc list off the top of my head on making excercise fun...

Wireless headphones and your favorite jams. Start listing a few minutes before you start excercising. Music gets you more pumped. I use Pantera, RATM, stuff like that. I put my ipad on the treadmill and watch shows on amazon prime or netlix. I read and contribute to this forum while on the treadmill. Buy clothes that are the size you will get to and hang them on the wall. It helps. Read and watch videos online about how amazing people feel since they started excercising. Watch videos on YouTube about people transforming their body with excercise, and transforming their life. These videos are very moving.

The bottom line is this stuff probably doesn't sound earth shattering, like it would help a ton. The difference between reading it and doing it is huge.

@Posho  totally, what @Phil said....I'm totally the same, it is rare for me to exercise with no music (I even make up songs when I ride my bike...lol)....and I usually want to make meditation musical and more "fun" too...have you tried binaural beats....they saved my meditation practice after I had backlash....also using Mala beads makes meditation a little easier for me....mixing things up with some visualization & gratitude = more creative ways to add "fun"...and good practices regardless.....

@Nahm @Epiphany_Inspired thank you :)

@Leo Gura I took your advice but one thing I want to know is what next. When i was questioning and contemplating, I hit a rock bottom and I couldn't justify anymore. I'm struck. I've been doing this contemplating thing for quite some time now and I myself am surprised with my beliefs but what after hitting the rock bottom?  I can't go anywhere. Any further

This sounds like only going to yield fruit only if resistance is grasped fully?

@Nahm

how do you read on your treadmill? I use TV Smart Switch and which I've been wanting to get wireless headphones do you have regular AirPods?
