Do People Want to Live Authentically?

9 posts in this topic

Authenticity is my top value, to be truthful, Self Loving, aligned with my values and strengths, and expressive in an honest, sincere way.

Is that important to you?

How did it become important to you?

Do you see that as important to others?

Why, or why not?

Authenticity is synonymous to Truth! So it's very important to me. The more I can align with Truth in both the Relative and the Absolute the more satisfaction I get. :)

Being tired of being someone others want me to be and not how I want to be. Realizing that my voice and the way I see things matters. In fact, truth is so easily buried and twisted that it makes me want to fight for it even more, with calibration.

Ultimately I think everyone is on this path, but few people have this as their priority right now.

Attachments - fear of what that might do to how they're living their life, survival, being "all alone", dissolution of the ego which has many layers and runs deep.

I think everyone wants to be authentic if it was just a matter of making a choice. No one wants to lie and hide their true self. But the problem is that being authentic requires sacrifice, and inauthenticity often has survival benefits.

If you've been a doormat all of your life, you might need to sacrifice the majority of your friends and family to start acting authentic. You might have trouble forming new relationships or even get into fights with strangers if your authentic views are too different from the norm.

I think being authentic to yourself is a must. Acknowledge your own weaknesses and shortcomings. But there are lots of times where being authentic with others might not be worth it and a white lie or omission  would serve you better.

I see correlation between what you are saying and my own life, coincidence? ;)

This is so good. Well spoken.

How do you think we can show others how high of a priority it is?

What is the balance of love needed to help others see how valuable it is, the vision of living authentically, the value of being true to ones self?

Being authentic is often more challenging than not. I definitely agree with you there. That's a great example with the doormat.

I think its a definitive problem, some people will say authenticity is one thing, others will say something else.

By example, demonstrating what is possible by being authentic.

I don't try to push it on others (who are not very open to it), simply just live it, sometimes silence is the best teaching.

Ones who are open, it's good to help in a way that's not 'suffocating' :)...

being authentic is not listening to others not being swayed by others not relying on others supportive energy to persevere

few are willing

truth is hard, popularity, another word for inauthenticity, is for the masses

a litmus test is do i need another to motivate myself, or is my motivation intrinsic

For me personally being authentic is the default way I operate. I was in a very safe environment at home so it was able to flourish.

I didn't have to not be authentic for my survival while growing up at home, so I can attest to that being a large factor.

I wear myself on my sleeve. I'm an open book. But as I socialize more, I learn about people with closed minds and how they will demonize you with ideas of idealism over materialism. So now I test waters and see where people are at. But at other times I will just start talking about 5meo with a guy that I just met lol.

I find that authenticity lacks for so many people because it was not safe for them to be authentic at home, so their survival strategy had withholding themselves programmed into them.

Being really authentic threatens your survival.

I forgive my past, I release the future, and I honor how I feel in the present.
