SEO Resources.

I am a freelancer Music producer/Melody creator. Very new to it.

SEO is looking to be very important for finding clients, any resources you know of to deepen my understanding of it?

  • Any usefull course on Udemy, Skillshare or Coursera from a qualified person
  • Befriending actual copywriters that specialize in SEO, and getting insights from them
  • Experimentation - learn from direct experience

There's really nothing else to it. In theory, the principles of SEO remain constant and never changing, but in practice you'll need to use various tactics that are best to remain high in search results - and those tactics you can only learn through experience of others, or your own.

Thank you, those are all very good pointers.

This is something that I am looking into myself. I am of the opinion that if you want to make money online you need to learn SEO in some capacity.

Although I can't help you on the SEO side of your question, I can tell you the strategy I am trying out in order to gain copywriting clients.

After speaking to experienced copywriters, they tell me that the way they started freelancing was through fiverr. Since fiverr is extremely saturated I've decided to sign up to multiple freelancing sites in order to gain customers. Here's a list of the sites I've signed up to.

(Bear in mind some of these sites are specifically for writing. Also you don't need to sign up to all of them, 5-10 sites will do!)

P.S. I'll make a thread describing if this strategy works or not.

Normally I'm very pro-SEO. But in this specific scenario I question how useful it will be. When people go looking for a music producer, are they really Googling and finding someone's website that way?

For some things SEO just wont work. Especially creative things. Like if you want to be a Hollywood director, do you think anyone is going to find your website and hire you to make a movie? No. At best you're going to record stuff like corporate training videos.

Instead of SEO I would find places where music creators gather online and make yourself known. If there's a subreddit for posting beats for musicians to use, or collaborating with them, go there and work with a couple hundred musicians and hope that a few make it big. Approach musicians and record labels and recording studios directly and show them your stuff.

Go to conferences for musicians and leave a couple hundred CDs lying around with your beats and a business card.

Research how big producers like Dr Dre or beat makers like Skrillex or Deadmau5 made it. I guarantee it was word of mouth and putting their stuff in front of people, not passive SEO strategies.

Just have a basic webpage with your songs and other info like store/event page or something so people can find you/support you. You have no idea how many great musicians I've met don't have this and really screw themselves over.

Interesting perspective, thanks for sharing! definitely still in the brainstorming stage, so this perspective does help.

Income school Project 24 seems like a really good source. Just dipped my toe in the course and it looks pretty good so far.

+1 I built my entire career around this course. Maybe not for OP for the reasons I've outlined above. But if you want to make a niche website this is the best resource online.

Check out their Youtube channel and get a feel for it. I dont know how I feel about the future direction now that Jim has left and it's just Ricky. But there is enough existing content to make it worth it. You get probably the best course on making a successful blog available today. Plus an equally in depth full course on making a Youtube channel. And about a dozen smaller courses.

It's costly but I've continued to pay the $250/year for 3+ years just to keep access to the community. It's like this forum's life purpose section expanded out to it's own full forum, and because it's behind a paywall the quality is very high, and full of actual business owners. I've more than earned my money back by networking and working with other P24 members (10s of thousands of dollars.)
