Quote About Reason And Rationality

3 posts in this topic

"'Reasoning doesn't have this function of helping us to get better beliefs and make better decisions,' said Hugo Mercier, who is a co-author of the journal article, with Dan Sperber. 'It was a purely social phenomenon. It evolved to help us convince others and to be careful when others try to convince us.' Truth and accuracy were beside the point."

That's an important point to ponder. Reason is largely used for purposes of persuasion, both persuasion of others, but also of self.

That's why in epistemology justification and normativity are critical concepts to study. Normativity is why most people want to employ reason. They want to be able to say: "Because of X, everyone must do Y." Normativity is what allows reason to apply universally to all people and beings. Which is grave mistake. Because in reality, everyone can reason however they want. And one's reasoning largely aligns with one's egoic agenda.

Note that it's very rare that someone employs reason to argue against their self-interest. This fact alone should make you very suspicious of reason. Reason's job is to make reasonable whatever serves the ego most. Which is why even a rapist, Nazi, or mass murderer will have a great set of reasons for why he did what he did.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

Idk if this relates...but it's funny when I get caught attempting to look at things from an absolute perspective while talking to someone who is coming strictly from a pure reasoning perspective exclusively from the ego (not that I'm not doing the same), which can be correct from the illusory material side. I'm like...oh yeah...that makes sense too. But I can't really explain the other perspective, because they kind of just "won" on the scratching the surface justification side, so they think. All of this is in a non debate fashion. I'm thinking about spending some time in solitude for a while, while working on consciousness, endogenous DMT enlightenment as well as synthetic with 5meo, business, life purpose - ancient Hatha yoga, and whatever else that may float my boat. Talking is bullshit. I call news reporters Peacocks. The best looking physically...but what the actual fuck are we/they saying? ALL GIBERISH, puppetISH, children tattle tale talk...literally. Just like all of my writing here.
