Depends on what level of consciousness you are operating on naturally, in the “sober” state. If you are below the weed, it will bring you up. If you are “above” the weed, it will pull you down. 
 
Weed can be very spiritual and beautiful. But there are far better options to choose from. Mushrooms are just as beautiful and can induce one of the most mystical pleasures you could ever feel, especially taken out in nature, with safe company. 
Same thing could be said about LSD.  
  
And then we have DMT and 5 of course ❤️

I took weed several times last year.

It definitely altered my state of consciousness more than what 1 hour of intense shamanic breathing does.

But it mainly increased the void dimension and not so much the pure consciousness dimension (explained here).

It felt like I'm very close to merging with the void (no more body sensations).

I guess I smoked large doses.

@GreenWoods Shamanic Breathing is surprisingly powerful though..

 

I think weed is an addictive substance. Think I’m finally out growing it though it’s okay from time to time

It's boundary dissolving, but in a murky way. It's like asking if bong water will hydrate you. Sure :D

It depends on wheter you try to escape something, or explore something by smoking weed. And only you can answer that for yourself.

Yes indeed! But for some reason it seems to require a lot of willpower for most people.

But it's definitely a more healthy alternative to weed. And the same states can be achieved, you just gotta keep breathing for a while.
