How would you define evil?

46 posts in this topic

I'm struggling with the concept of good and evil and I'm not sure how to properly phrase this mental dilemma. I have contemplated on the subject of evil multiple times in the past 4 years but only came to tidbits and half truths.

Now the first step would be to be able to properly define evil.

So what's your opinion on evil and how would you define evil?

Somebody posted this some time ago. It has a pretty good definition of evil.

@Preety_India

Evil is that which sees hell around itself even if there is only a heaven.

Evil is the absence of love.

Just as an object blocking a lightsource is casting a shadow as a result.

Thanks.

That's what I have found to be most useful, since it lacks any additional thoughts of judgement to what evil is or isn't.

Cancellation of free will. That which is not possible and does not, intrinsically, exists.

Evil is love that you don't want to submit to. Everyone is doing good from their POW and from what they identify with. The only "Problem" is that we don't identify with everything but with "ourselves" which creates " Evil".

Evil doesn't really exist in other words. It's just skewed love.

fighting what is

most do this from ignorance (that's called suffering) but if you do it from willfulness that's called evil

so to suffer willingly is pretty darn evil i say

worshiping the ever unfolding what is, by contrast, is love

evil is selfishness. the good, selflessness. we are all evil to some extent, even Jesus Christ. Well, when he decided to let himself be crucified for the good of others, no. evil excludes, and you need evil to be you, since to be you, you have to exclude what is not you. if you don't, you will dissolve and disappear. the basis of the existence of "things" is evil. even a plant has evilness, it competes, it fights to be itself. but her "goodness" is far superior, it is selfless, it just is. in humans, the tendency to evil is enormous. I as opposed to what is not me. this degenerates to crazy levels, to enjoying the suffering of others, to pure destruction. total evil, only humans have that ability. total unhappiness.

To what is evil instrumental? For something to know itself.

Something knowing itself trough no evil is like a tree growing without the wind or a baby dying in the womb.

Not only would there not be a story to tell without evil, but there would neither be someone there to tell it.

An essential attribute of consciousness, an existential matter.

I made a play list on it girl.  Check it when you have a few hours spare time.

Evil is ignorance, nothing more or less.  Just a lack of knowing.

Evil is causing a low vibration in another. That being said all is good in the world, everything is necessary and even if we don't see it there's something good happening from the bad experiences :)

Evil is a concept created by a species which is over 50% similar to bananas. And taking that concept seriously as an absolute guide to morality is most certainly bananas.

What did the stage orange scientist call the stage blue fundamentalist for claiming YHWH intentionally caused Noah’s great flood?

Delugional.

Good and Evil are relative.

Assuming you are a good person, stay that way.

But nothing is saying you are but you.

Good can be evil and evil can be good.

One thing, good for me, could be bad for you. Vice versa.

The relative game of ‘Good vs. Evil’ is senseless though.

It is better to focus on your ability to focus.

Your ability to surrender to whatever happens.

If you understand God, non duality, etc. You’ll see why everything from Gods perspective is good and why it can not be this why for you without suffering.

It could also feel sick, nasty and outright wrong.

This might be where some of your confusion comes from.

You could be trying to take on Gods perspective too fast.

Im sure you’re a nice person, but it is hard for any of us to surrender to seemly injustice atrocities of the world in the name of wisdom and Gods love.

Or however you want to look at it.

Instead of worrying about what good and evil are maybe it’d be more practical to first focus on what you think is good and evil.

Have you felt evil?

or Good?

What remains the same out of those experiences?

Any differences?

In physics there is a saying ‘there is no such thing as cold, only lack of heat.’

Heat is just the moving of particles, no movement, no heat.

But it’s really not cold just less hot.

I like to say, and I don’t know if I made this up or Leo or someone said it but:

‘There is no such thing as hate, only lack of Love’

I think it fills in the gaps.

The intentional destruction of love/life.

A force directly opposed to existence.

An existential cancer.

Though it may manifest from the absence of love, it is not just the absence of love.  Evil isn't sadness or tragedy, it's its own thing.  Animals can suffer from a lack of love, but they will never ever turn evil.  They won't kill just to rob others of their love for life, but humans might.
