New Policy For Cleaning Up The Politics Sub-Forum

43 posts in this topic

Starting today I have implemented a new policy for the Politics sub-forum specifically to help clean this place up. The policy is as follows:

If I see a member polluting the Politics sub-forum with consistently bad takes, gaslighting, excessive right-wing ideology, dogmatism, drama, misinformation, etc., rather than banning their entire account, I will adjust their account to disable access to the entire Politics sub-forum. This is necessary because some people are just not ready for mature, conscious discussions about politics.

Obviously this is a subjective judgment call on my end, and anyone who gets their account adjusted will feel I am being biased and unfair, but that is better than letting such behavior slide. I don't claim to be completely unbiased, but someone has to moderate this place to keep it from devolving into a cesspool.

Be warned that I am keeping track of usernames of people who consistently post low-consciousness, ideological takes about politics. So be mindful of what you post. This is not a matter of left vs right, this is a matter of truthfulness, consciousness, maturity, accuracy, and openmindedness. I am not happy with people using this sub-forum to spread propaganda, misinformation, and low-quality takes. It ends up flooding the zone with bullshit. I want our political discussions here held to a higher standard than the partisan culture wars found everywhere else online. Our aim here is to look at politics in a meta manner, transcending the partisan left/right divide. Obviously we will never meet this aim perfectly -- since we all have some degree of bias -- but at least let us try.

If you notice certain members consistently failing to meet these standards, please report them to me (via PM) and I will review whether they deserve access to this sub-forum.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

Are you going to prevent them from posting on the sub-forum or are you going ban them from seeing it entirely?

I suggest you don't do this by yourself only. Sometimes misinformation and propaganda can be hard to spot, and more eyes (maybe this sub-forum's moderators? ) can definitely help.

At the end of the day, political opinions are based upon journalism and history, and just because some sources go against the current, that doesn't necessarily mean they are misinformation. A nuanced and sensitive approach should be taken, and it's going to be challenging.

Yes it's a hard task... I wish this was more like a "vision board" where we can throw ideas about what kind of society we want to have/live in collectively... it is challenging to not create division but if we all make an effort it's possible to get to the good stuff ;).

Good, politics done wrong tends to make people literally insane.

Yeah this is a good suggestion imo. Also i would add that there could be more transparency and honesty.

For example, if you didn't do much research on that particular topic, or if you are not sure that the information that you are sharing is 100% true, then you should mention it. That way people can be more sure, and do their own research and there would be less misleading topics.

Also this way the emotionally charged topics can be reduced and more intellectual conversations can be achieved imo.

In my opinion most of the stuff on there is straight up counterproductive (Probably due to the fact that Leo is a mediocre dating coach (Leo if you are reading this I love you its just you are wrong about a lot of the dating stuff))

Not much point in that.

You can block the acc from visiting it, but the user can log off and visit it logged out.
You can block the IP from visiting, but there is VPN.

Btw it looks like a good move to me. These threads around here can get.... quite dense.

What do you think he is wrong about?

From my own understanding and pov, he is right about most thing

There might be some questionable stuff about topics like masturbation and porn but these are highly subjective topics and affect your dating only laterally

It is though. You’ve been officially judged to have absolutely brain dead political takes lol.

It honestly feels like quite a few people here deserve it but maybe it’s a bit much, idk.
