Split Brain Does Not Lead To Split Consciousness

7 posts in this topic

"A new research study contradicts the established view that so-called split-brain patients have a split consciousness.  Instead, the researchers behind the study, led by UvA psychologist Yair Pinto, have found strong evidence showing that despite being characterised by little to no communication between the right and left brain hemispheres, split brain does not cause two independent conscious perceivers in one brain."

Who would've thunk it... o.O

:D baby steps for psychology lol.

By extension, would it mean that two separate brains (of two guys, say) also result in just one consciousness? ;) that's a hint there.

It's cute how this refutes one of Sam Harris' arguments toward consciousness likely arising in the brain. Poor Sam Harris, he tries so hard to be right about something.

It's pretty interesting the studies they've done on split-brain patients. There were some instances where someone's left hand would be doing an action that the person wouldn't be rationally aware of, like unbuttoning their own shirt.

In Sam Harris' book 'Waking up' he went on & on about the split brain experiments pointing to the likelyhood that the brain must produce consciousness, as a universal consciousness couldn't be split, in one person, into two independent consciousnesses.
