What are you doing with your life ?

12 posts in this topic

Life is short . 60-80 years maximum. Each year is 12 months .each month is 30 days . Its really short and fleeting . You don't want to face your death with tons of regret. You don't want to wish in your death bed that you could have done things better .

What is worthwhile to waste your time with ? Some people only care about acquiring pleasures and possessions...but when you die you will see that for all that time you were chasing a mirage.

I say..make your entire life revolve around two things :

1 discovering the truth.the ultimate truth

2l living your dream life.the best life possible.

my mind is gone to a better place.  I'm elevated ..going out of space . And I'm gone .

When you're 60-80 years old, that statistic will be very different.

Improvements in healthcare.

By the time we're all 80 the average lifespan will likely be something like 120.

The general trend is for society to get more focused on human exploration / stimulation rather than survival the longer and more advancedly we can live. What implications are in a society where everybody is increasingly closer to immortality and can modify themselves and their descendants in endlessly conceivable ways?

Doesn't matter, lifespans will be improved anyway.  Too many billionaires putting money into life-extension research, and we already know what we need to work on to achieve immortality.

People have already lived to 120 today, and they didn't seem like stopping ?

Depends on how well you can manage your body and mind. Are there people who are above 80-90 years old and in a relatively good shape physically and mentally? Yes for sure, but most people are not.

We need to study the exceptions to understand how they could manage to do it, and what were the reasons.

I am sure of my position. Doubtless, death is a loss. It deprives us of experiences and milestones, of time spent with our spouse and children. In short, it deprives us of all the things we value.

But here is a simple truth that many of us seem to resist: living too long is also a loss. It renders many of us, if not disabled, then faltering and declining, a state that may not be worse than death but is nonetheless deprived. It robs us of our creativity and ability to contribute to work, society, the world. It transforms how people experience us, relate to us, and, most important, remember us. We are no longer remembered as vibrant and engaged but as feeble, ineffectual, even pathetic.

That's quite a silly thing to suggest.  If people die at 120+, that means people are still in their prime in their 80s.  Of course you won't have people on the brink of death at 80 somehow managing to not die for another 40+ years.

I weirdly felt some of this dynamic while watching Jordan Peterson (59) talk to Roger Penrose (90). They had a comparable level of vitality despite their relative age. After all, Peterson was very close to dying 2-3 years ago. When he recovered, it felt like he aged 15-20 years.
