Is it possible to reach God regardless of alcohol dependence

Can one awaken deeply even though they drink alcohol on a regular basis? 

I understand that to reach the deepest levels, one would need to surrender selfish attachments and tendencies but my question is if it’s possible to still reach those deep levels of awakening even though they are dependant on alcohol. 

I have recently watched Leo’s interview with Curt, where Leo had admitted that at the time he still had judgmental tendencies that he had no fully worked out yet and had not felt the need to let them go at the time of the interview. So it got me thinking that perhaps one would not need to surrender such addictions to eventually reach God. Obviously, judgements vs alcohol are completely different addictions, with alcohol being damaging physically and chemically but curious to hear peoples views on this.

@SeekingFreedom Could be a hindrance or a motivator, all depends. I met someone once who said they are an alcoholic and was looking to have a 5-meo trip at an addictions clinic - though he mostly referred to it as to help him work past this addiction. But simultaneously this may open him up to more inner/spiritual pursuits as I have pointed him to this direction. Anything’s possible and depends on the individual. Not too different imo from people with mental health issues who may eventually stumble upon spirituality while pursuing healing work.

@SeekingFreedom It would be possible to get a glimpse or awaken but to stay awakened that person might need to drop alcohol. Or it just drops away effortlessly. Or alcohol will still be used. 

In short one could say that  the outcome will vary from person to person. ?

Yes.  You will ultimately suffer from drinking alcohol too much and suffering is a form of spiritual growth.  Selfishness leads to suffering.
