What is the situation with covid in Russia?

A friend of mine went to his hometown Kazan in Russia. He said the covid situation is wild. People
dying in quite a bit. He himself almost died. He lost his hair, taste and smell. Got tinitus. His father
also almost tied. His mom died.

The hospital is closed he said. Seems like the employees refused to work because of the high risk.
