What is the root cause of jealousy or possessiveness and hot to get rid of them?

jealousy is 2 things 

1. i compare myself unfavorably to others, i am not as valuable as them ... namely i have self esteem issues

2. i think my partner is open to dumping me ... namely i have trust issues with this particular person

eliminate either one and jealousy is gone

or better eliminate both

@Valach  Jealousy or possessiveness is usually rooted in our self concept, "how we feel about our self" and fear of loss.
