Is moving out worth it?

23 posts in this topic

Im still quite unsure about it. I will be moving about 3.5 hours away for work and I have a good relationship with my family and all of my friends are here which is why im worried. Just to give a bit of a background, I started paying rent when I was 17 to help out my family (23 now), and I make pretty good money so I can afford to be on my own now. That being said I dont have a big motivator to move other than curiosity to see how it is and have my own space to work on my projects without getting distracted. And this brings me to my question - for those of you who moved away from your family and friends how did you handle loneliness, what difficulties came up that you did not foresee, and what benefits if any did you gain, and last but not least was it worth it ?

I definitely found that I am happier living closer to my community.  Every time I moved away, I regretted it.   But then again, if you are the extroverted type and don’t have that hard of a time making friends, perhaps it won’t be that bad for you.

There's your motivator right there.

I moved out 8 months ago and it was the best decision I’ve made

That said… I don’t live especially far from my family and can still see them every so often and I do appreciate that

If you do move, make sure you find hobby groups, go out, whatever it takes to make friends or just socialise

Most young people live with their parents. Moving out will make you the minority. But follow your heart.

i left when i was 21, to a country that i didn't speak the language and i had no friends lmao

whatever reality is, it wants you to evolve to your potential. nothing about patterns is striving towards potential and no matter what happened to me i found nothing really ever goes as bad as you predict it, there are times to chill and enjoy and relax into what you created for yourself and there's times to create something for yourself

just be here, if you can do it this moment you can do it the next moment

this is the now, now is all that is real, the truth is now, not your concept or experience, just this

is there suffering in this ? work to be done young jedi. me

I'm 21 and I haven't moved out yet (still working on building a career) but I personally think that most young people should try to move out as soon as they can, especially guys. I think its so crucial to develop strong independence, self-reliance and responsibility at a young age. Those are such crucial traits to develop and I think the earlier you develop them the better. Even if you are supporting yourself financially living with your parents and doing all of your own chores and everything, I still think its important to leave the nest and get out of your parents house asap once you become an adult. Its important for just developing yourself as a person and gaining maturity, and not having any attachment or dependancy on your parents, which makes you lazy and complacent. There are a lot of interesting videos from Jordan Peterson and others talking about the importance of moving out as soon as possible, and I definitely agree with them.

Yes your answered your own question.  You make your own money now.  So consider becoming a home owner and moving out.  It will be a bit lonely at first, but your will get used to it over time.  I moved out 6 years ago and quite happy I made that decision.  Make sure you’ve saved up enough to support yourself first. Sit down and work out the number$ … bills, groceries, mortgage etc

If you have enough money then move out.. Sometimes we move out and then begin to face financial issues.

Absolutely worth it. You haven't started to live until you moved out from under your family.

Yes, there will be a period of loneliness. You fix this by going out, socializing, and making new friends.

There are great perks to living with your parents, and lots of great perks living independently. Make a list of pros and cons for each and really contemplate what you want most.

One day you'll have to move out anyway. And yes, it's definitely worth it, but you have to do it right. Living independently is a crucial step in your development. If 3,5 hours is too far away for you, try finding something closer. I live 3,5 hours away from my family, but I visit them every like every 3 weeks or so and call them regularly.

100% Worth it.

If you haven't learnt to cook yet, you will (and I highly recommend that you get into a habit of cooking healthy meals for yourself.)

Less of a barrier in inviting friends

Loneliness just forces you to either focus more deeply on non-social things that are important to you or to go out and socialize more. Loneliness won't exist if you have no time to think about it because so you're deeply engaged with life.

Wow thank you all for your suggestions. I will have to make an effort to socialize and @Tim R I'll do this as well. I can work remotely certain days too so coming back isn't really an issue. Thanks again yall! I have alot to reflect on

21 and moving out next month.

I was the most closed minded to moving out for the longest time. But once you awaken to the power of environment change and the power of taking responsibility over EVERYTHING in your life, you can't wait to give yourself this gift.

Find a friend that's motivated as hell to self actualize with you.

Embody stage blue, work hard, and bootstrap yourself.

Especially if you're not even worried about money, go for it. There's nothing stopping you.

Much love.

I forgive my past, I release the future, and I honor how I feel in the present.
