"You are an illusion or you don't exist"

25 posts in this topic

You do exist.

You don't exist.

What you will find is people telling you both, you will be confused. Because both are true.

No disagreement there. How does that have to do with being an illusion or not existing?

Humans tend to identify with the content of their self-referential thoughts (narratives derived from their autobiographical memory) to produce a self-identity that shapes one's perception of the world. When the frequency and repetitive nature of one's self-referential of thoughts is lessened, and when such thoughts are perceived for the fleeting phenomena that they are, rather than for being the base of one's reality, one can start to unveil this contracted perceptual overlay, a.k.a. the illusion of self.

Intrinsic joy is revealed in the marriage of meaning and being.

the you that you perceive and define is a learned mental construct sustained by memory. like anything else. if you erased the mental construction there would be neither me nor others. there would be nothing defined. everything is actively sustained by your mental activity. if you stop doing it, everything disappears. doesnt exist

the self you perceive and know so well is a mental construct sustained by memory. if you remove memory and thought from the equation there is no self differentiated from what is not self. there is nothing differentiated. just unlimited current existence. you are actively creating with your mind the self, the others and the universe. They are just ideas in your mind. Illusions. Nothing

Can someone please explain to me what is trying to be conveyed when people say this. Thank you!

the "you" being conveyed here is a thought,

you do exist, but not as a thought.

in other words, the you that you think you are is ALWAYS, not real.

the you that you are can never be translated, distinguished, or identified by a thought or a word.
