Playing With Perspectives

Just watched the two-part series Understanding the Conservative & Liberal Mind. I enjoyed it a lot and resonated with it. It's very relatable as I co-habit with an extremely conservative person and I myself am rather liberal. Both episodes offer many insights which I'd been reflecting on for some time now. I'm thankful for this type of deep, genuine content.

In order to be satisfied and not to cause more unnecessary suffering for you, stop:

  1. comparing experiences
  2. comparing yourself to others
  3. resisting your experience
  4. identifying with stupid stuff
  5. pursuing ideals
  6. wanting what you don't have
  7. being careless about what you say to yourself!

Happiness is either intrinsic or it isn't happiness but relief, survival, success, winning. Whenever things go your way, you say that you're happy. When they don't, you say that you're not happy. Both of these are self-survival, not happiness.

Consider that perhaps you're constantly experiencing bliss and that it is an aspect of your nature, you're just ignorant of it.

My consciousness work needs to massively evolve so that this kind of statements can be made from direct consciousness and not just from intellect, which is where most of this content is coming from. For that, the work must first be grounded on authentic experience.

In any case, I'll keep posting this kind of stuff since it helps me get clear and improves my thinking and writing, plus it's fun and demands learning.

What would it look like for me to be totally willing to making a new discovery? Am I open to discovering what lies beyond what I currently know and can know?

Practice enjoying fear.

Relate to it as another experience of yours, which it is.

"Sheer terror, nice."

I've been observing this in my own experience and interactions: we as a society don't feel like we can be truly authentic. Why? What prevents you from being fully, authentically you?

Some interesting food for contemplation.

As I was looking into what intention is, I realized something: prior to being cognizant of the decision, I already know what I'm going to decide. That is to say, intent is present without having to go through the process of figuring out what decision to take. Check it out!

On a related note, I've also been using confusion as a pretext to feeling justified in putting things off, even though the intent was there all along! I just was unaware or playing coy so that I could go on procrastinating.

Vernon Howard strikes me as a "real" man and a mature person.

I find myself continuously revisiting the practice of mindfulness and its power.

Just being able to maintain one's focus and sensitivity towards something increases effectiveness and makes space for powerful observations to take place.

The difference is jarring compared to the more common experience of being overwhelmed, distracted and stressed.

There's beauty to any activity when it is carried out mindfully. There's a richness to life that's easily taken for granted unless full attention is given to our present experience.

Apply this principle of "one thing at a time with all your focus" into everyday life. After ecstasy, the laundry, right? Then you might as well learn to master the laundry.

What's your experience like when you throw yourself into whatever you're doing instead of resisting it? How does it influence your level of satisfaction?

In your own mind, forgiving someone is comfortable and easy. That way, it becomes merely an intellectual activity. Lately, however, I've noticed that doing it is harder than what the mind makes it out to be. In my experience, I'm often unable to let go of deep-seated resentment towards "other". Communication is needed.

This dynamic exemplifies how easy it is to think about this work as opposed to doing it, by grasping stuff experientially. They are two different worlds, the latter being not at all common, easy or popular.

To be creative you must come from an empty sheet. Creativity starts with that. Where most people come from isn't that, so they think that being creative is putting things together. Rearranging what others has done so far, mixing in your opinions, and voila! -- creativity. But that isn't creativity.

The matter is best left unanswered so you can look into it and hopefully have an experience of that.
