why sexual and violent entertainment normalized?

7 posts in this topic

It seems that every couple years more nudity and violence and vulgarity becomes culturally accepted to use as entertainment.

This applies to tv, movies, music, stand up comedy, and most everything else that people entertain themselves with.

WHY?

(I'm no complaining about it, I like it)

Maybe humans need to further face their own violent, sexually obsessed and animalistic side before transcending it to a certain extent, maybe that's why.

Here are some potentials/ideas:
- we're becoming more expressive and accepting of the dark sides of our humanity.
- it's a capitalistic strategy for views.
- our inner turmoil is being reflected externally. haha.
- people like to see something they see as a reality instead of unrealistic fiction.

Idk, there are probably a number of reasons!

It should be obvious why our entertainment has violence and sex. It’s entertaining and presented through safe formats.

As far as why it keeps getting ‘worse,’ people just want more. Once they’ve had A, they want B, then C, D, E, etc.

Like a porn addict watching more and more hardcore stuff, just to get the same pleasure any video used to give.

Or a marijuana addict taking more hits to achieve the same high one hit used to give.

when we are exposed to these violence we internalize it. if we internalize it we will be unhappy in the future and will be depresed. if we are not happy , the industries can easily sell us a product. if we are unhappy we will easily adopt consumerism
