Game Changer : pain is just a sensation

16 posts in this topic

At the experiential level, if one is able to realise pain as a temporary sensation, a fleeting sensation. A good sensation on the flipside, a cool breeze brushing through your face, is temporary too. If one can see both events with the same state of mind, a different experience can be felt in the present moment.

the peace of mind attained at that moment when equanimity is achieved at the experiential level, is quite profound.

Agree - I'm very much with the Buddha on this one: 'Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional'. The real issue isn't so much the pain as the resistance we build up against it - that inner resistance causes emotional repression and energetic blockages, and we're never really free whilst there's anything unresolved in us. I know that for me in my own healing journey, becoming conscious of that inner resistance, which manifests in the body as contraction and tension, and then allowing it to gradually release has been absolutely crucial.

Suffering is just a thought.

Absolutely, well expressed? I too feel that its better to cultivate a better relationship with pain.

I remember this insight when I was like 10 or 12 as a young endurance athlete. Made me OP because I knew the pain didn’t matter

@Carl-Richard but the pain real right

Sensations are real. Thoughts are real. This is not a problem. The problem is not being aware of pain as sensation and suffering as thought.

Thought being _just_ a thought to you has value judgement and an attitude (arrogance?) Baked into it. Thoughts are thoughts.

Just because it's simple doesn't mean it's easy.

Pain is invitation for deeper self love, some part saying: "see me, I need love too"

Very true ?

So we got be quite mindful all the time to be aware that pain just a sensation, other wise pain will take its own vibe lol, and I think we are somewhere addicted to pain too which could be why we are attracting it, sometimes it's easier to feel pain than numbness ( from some emo song i have heard lol) so yeah being mindful helps to know that pain is just a sensation.

Seems like you're very eager to explain why that is.
