Thinking Faculties Deteriorating

11 posts in this topic

I don't know if this is a spiritual or medical thing.

But lately my mental faculties have been deteriorating, like a lot.

Im a young guy and my memory has turned to shit, like I gotta double check things to make sure I did them because I forget.

It's also hard for me to be coherent, like it's difficult to express the things I'm thinking about.

I feel like an old man, it's better to sit and just be quiet.

It's a bit concerning as I feel like I'm becoming dumber ?.

Meditation has been easier and I've been having insights but I'm becoming more of a fool everyday.

Likely poor diet and heavy metals/toxin buildup.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

Check your sleep.

Also you might not be doing anything that is intellectually stimulating.

You have to keep the engine working so that it doesn't catch rust.

@Fearless_Bum This happens when you progress spiritually. Adyashanti talks about this in his books. Memory decreases as enlightenment increases.

"Not believing your own thoughts, you’re free from the primal desire: the thought that reality should be different than it is. You realise the wordless, the unthinkable. You understand that any mystery is only what you yourself have created. In fact, there’s no mystery. Everything is as clear as day. It’s simple, because there really isn’t anything. There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

I think it’s a spiritual thing. These are just some perspectives to consider…

It’d be exceptionally rare for someone your age to experience memory loss or decline of mental faculties.

There is no separate self which is becoming dumber… try not thinking of memories as my memory / memories (and thus my mental faculties). Think of it more like the ground. There’s not really any “ground”, but source never misses a step. So to speak, that same source is being the memories & in truth of course you are infinitely intelligent.

If there is increased consistency and or duration with meditation, it’s very common to be aware of aspects one wasn’t before, and at first they can seem new and thus problematic or worrisome. Hearing the universe for the first time as an example often gets labelled as tinnitus with an accompanying sentiment that it is a problem or worrisome. In that vein, not sure how else to say it, God does re-wire brains. I’ve experienced it several times. If there is a secondary ‘spiritual thing’ like third eye pressure, you might be in a metamorphosis transition. If that’s the case, when the third eye opens you’ll forget all about this ‘memory problem’.

Also with increased meditation it isn’t uncommon to miss at first, relationships between lethargy and diet and or eating late at night. And when focus is more meditative, naturally effortless… feeling & perception can become far more pronounced, and thought activity reduced, it can seem like there’s this or that problem while it really just take a minute to adjust to. Also with diet, make sure you aren’t swinging the pendulum too far to the opposite, make sure you’re eating enough.

Relativity’s endlessly sneaky, so it’s also possible the plans and endeavors on your horizon are ‘causing you’ to hyper-notice moments when you aren’t able to articulate verbally, in a slight anticipatory sense. Emotionally, if it feels like there’s doubt then it’s doubt, and disappointment is actually the way to go, vs possibly (idk) framing the emotion as ‘a mental problem’.

It might be as simple as you’re not used to a calmer mind, and so it seems like there’s an issue when there isn’t. Patience & relaxation might be called for in allowing memory / thought in general. In the transition from the facade of being a thinker or intellectual, to receiving, it can take a minute to adjust. If that rings true, really it could just be that. It’s quite a transition.

Also consider, in regard to it being harder to be coherent and express, there might be a lot that was more discordant and reactional, which there is just less inclination to focus on and express now, and again an adjustment / transition period.

Hopefully something here is helpful. Overall I don’t think there’s any issue or anything to worry about, but odds are you’re not able to comprehend anything I just wrote anyways. Even if you are, you’ll probably just forget it. xD?

Edit: Also… are you trying to remember stuff that you don’t need to?  If so use an electronic calendar (in your phone etc).

Maybe anxiety, poor sleep, excessive internet/devices use. Training your brain is useful. Read books for long stretches of time with no interruptions.

Fasting, dopamine detox, etc.

Build up your concentration. Reduce distractions. Sleep well. Eat very clean. Relax. Exercise.

I sympathize with your situation. Going through something similar.

@Fearless_Bum The past is just imaginary. It doesn’t really exist. The more you're conscious of that, the less of the imagination you are constructing. Hence the decrease of memory.

@Fearless_Bum how do you FEEL?

man i know what you mean, my memory is really fucked up. it's because i was dissociated for several years and it's like checking the archives on a windows 98 pc when i try to go into those memories

it's just of concern when you say it's better to sit and be quiet. i think if you begin to live like that, it will put you in a crevasse that you won't see happening so be careful - perhaps it's time for something sponteanous that is out of your daily pattern?

just be here, if you can do it this moment you can do it the next moment

this is the now, now is all that is real, the truth is now, not your concept or experience, just this

is there suffering in this ? work to be done young jedi. me
