Is There Emotion Without Ego?

6 posts in this topic

People describe a "joy" or "awe" when they experience non-egoic states. Are "joy" and "awe" emotions? It seems that emotions must stem from judgments, and if there is no ego, there is no judgment.

I feel that one would experience: Equanimity, comfortable, sense of well-being, unshakable, clarity and so on.

@philosogi You have a silly conception of enlightenment.

Nothing changes. All emotions remain.

All enlightenment is, is the realization that you never existed. Everything else remains. Nothing is gained. Nothing is lost.

Enlightenment is exactly the same as non-enlightenment.

Enlightenment is a shift in perspective, nothing else.

All emotions that ever occurred, occurred without ego. The problem is you don't realize it yet.

Yes emotions would still exist. The ego is the "separate self" that we think we are. The separate self is made of concepts we have about reality and how we relate to it. Once the "separate self" dies enlightenment happens. When people describe "joy" or "awe" they're talking about higher levels of consciousness. Without the ego, we can express whatever emotions we want.

@philosogi Short answer: No
Long answer: Enlightenment gives you freedom from ego, it doesn't destroy it or anything like that.
To experience any kind of emotion or in other words "give a shit" ego is required as the "nothing" doesn't care about anything.

Does it also mean that if we rid our selves of judgement we get rid of the bad part of ego? I'm experiencing joy and peace of mind currently, after fully realising everyone and everything is just the way it should be, including me.

This coupled with the realisation of no I and the dropping of center of conciousness to the chest area. Nothing special really, but it feels lovely, even if it's non enlightenment. It is how it is.
