Intense Pain In Head During Meditation

6 posts in this topic

Hello All! Tonight while meditating to Leo's guided mediation I went into a pretty deep trance where my sense of self disappeared and I merged into reality which I have gotten used to. Although this time was a little different, my body was completely paralyzed and I couldn't move. Then I opened my eyes and my awareness  felt like it was expanding a little bit but there was a really intense pain where my head felt like it was going to explode. I tried to accept it without any resistance but the pain became unbearable and my body ended up collapsing out of the state. Anyone have any idea if this is safe? Should I stop meditating for a little while?

Firstly, COOL!!

I'm not certain if terrible head pain was mentioned, but Leo made a video called The Dark Side of Meditation that addresses unexpected symptoms that may arise. I don't remember it well, but most likely, he gives advice on how to proceed. Good luck. :)

Yeah I was actually listening to that at work today since it's been a while since I checked it out. The closest thing I can think of was my mind was trying to astral project since I've felt similar sensations during my attempts at that. It was pretty violent so maybe I just got rejected haha.

@Bebop Just take another approach. Be flexible, remain calm.

Walking meditation for example in fresh air.

Yeah I'm thinking I just need to relax a little bit, going through a very stressful transition and I've been stuck in my head a lot. Sometimes I forget to take a breather from this intense work :D

If the pain keeps getting worse and you feel like your losing your mind, i recommend that you stop all practices and just do this.

@SaynotoKlaus I lost my mind a long time ago haha! Actually I've done hundreds if not thousands of hours of mindfulness work so I'm pretty grounded in what my true self is. The problem I've been facing lately though is a lot of shifts in awareness and energy moving through my body which can be uncomfortable at times :P
