I always tell people that his psychological and biblical lectures are pretty good and I recommend them, but better stay away from the political stuff... And watch out for political stuff in the psychology/biblical lectures.

You should listen to absolutely everyone, even some of the people you don't like. Especially them. The trick is to not get too attached to any one person or idea.

Take the best, leave the rest!

I don't like listening to JP. Most of what he said don't stick on to me and he speaks in a complicated way.

Just go to the source for psychology: Carl Jung, Frederick Nietzsche etc or listen to teachers who speak easier and more relatable content.

You must distinguish signal from noise. That's hard to do with JP, but if you can do it, it's worthwhile to listen to his apolitical stuff.

@Tim R @Leo Gura

What do u mean by political things.

Is it his hate speach on feminism.or glorifying men

From a scratch on surface I think he is honest and good intentioned

Here's a few clips on his political views (+Hasan reacting to it).

He tends to promote stage blue values when it comes to society and the individual, which can be, given that we are struggling to evolve towards green, regressive and holding us back.

However, his stage blue values can be pretty helpful to integrate stage blue in yourself, because I think he himself is actually a rather honest and integrated version of blue. So it's a good a idea to use that if you yourself are lacking in stage blue, it certainly was (and still somewhat is?) the case for me when I started out listening to him.

But I quickly realized that with JP, you have to carefully discern the wheat (healthy stage blue values like discipline, honesty, integrity, etc. ) from the chaff (enforced monogamy, "post-modern neo-marxists", exessive individualism, etc.).

See, stuff like this is what I mean by chaff.

Good analysis by Leo.

I criticized some part of Leo's analysis that I regarded as not nuanced enough, check it out if you want, we had a nice little discussion.

And if you're still intereseted, here's two pretty cool videos on JP by ContraPoints and Philosophy Tube.

His political commetary is not so great.

His non-political work is insightful.

If you’re on the left, people will overlook some of his psychology stuff, which can be really good. Especially his stuff on personalities.

When it comes to politics he’s pretty regressive. For example, the other day he tweeted “you’d have to kill me first” on Twitter in response to Justin Trudeau *reccomending* the booster shot

The takeaway I get from Jordan Peterson is that he is a clinical psychologist who has mastered his material, but yet is not able to solve his own problems and addictions, which shows the impotence of Western psychology and why, if you want to heal, you need to search elsewhere, starting with yourself.

That's pretty much JP's message; start with fixing yourself. Clean your room, put yourself in order.

On the other hand JP is also a seeker, someone who is looking for existential truth just like people on this forum.

It's really funny that people want to put him down on this forum as a lowly 'Stage blue thinker', but he is obviously more accomplished and enlightened than any person on this forum

I'd say more 'western enlightened' than actual enlightenment. Great psychological insights, not so good political views.

Maybe his political views is valuable for 3rd to 2nd world societies, but not quite for 1st world democracies. They need modals like ego development and spiral dynamics and integral theory more.

Depends on the subject matter.

JP is strong in certain areas, and weak in others.

His talk with Lawrence Krauss is the best I've seen. It changed how I understand his idea of "meaning." It's actually a meta-theoretical concept for understanding the relationships between subjectivity, objectivity, models, narratives, perception, cognition and higher-order meaning.

Intrinsic joy is revealed in the marriage of meaning and being.

As others may have said, a definite yes at least when it comes to his less political more practical stuff . At the very least he will have you looking at stuff in a way you never did before... which is never a bad thing
