What is non duality?

Non-Duality simply means that any description, any "what" or "how", any "this" or "that" does not exist as something in its own right, or separately, but always and only in relation to whatever it is against which you defined the first description. 

For example: what is up? Not down. What is down? Not up.

So do you see how both descriptions go round in circles, defining each other and thus not defining anything at all? Up and down aren't really different from each other. They imply each other. There is neither up nor down, both are merely arbitrary categories that do not exist autonomously in reality. 

Non-Duality means that whatever you think you can point at and say "this", it will always implies "that". Because you wouldn't know "this", unless contrasted with whatever happens to be its background ("that"). 

This of course, is itself nothing but a description of Non-Duality.

"Real Non-Duality" cannot be described. All descriptions must be understood as mere pointers ("the map is not the territory").

You have to see Non-Duality for yourself, no "explanation" will suffice. It's a "grasping" of reality as a whole, without any opposite.

To take an everyday example for illustrative purposes, consider hot and cold. The dualistic conception of this is as two distinct and opposing forces (if you have more of one that means you have less of the other).

Whereas the non-dualistic perception of this same phenomena would see hot and cold as two sides of the same coin of a qualitative discernment that we call temperate.

If you extrapolate this kind of discernment towards the conceptual categories that we use to atomize reality in to discrete objects, you'll begin to discover that our normal egoic ways of categorizing don't hold up to epistemological scrutiny (however useful said categorization happens to be in our day to day lives). 

This can be extended to subject-object dualism, and to illusion that your body is a container with a clear boundary between your body/mind and the rest of reality.

Non duality simply implies that all of reality is indistinguishable. This can be both conceptualized and embodied .. which makes it special.

The relative is dual. The Absolute is non-dual.

Duality is comprised of two parts that make up a whole (e.g. hot-cold, up-down, big-small).

From the relative perspective, duality is two. From The Absolute perspective, duality is one.
