What are the beauty standards at your place ?

5 posts in this topic

Once i was walking down the street and had a sudden insight , that this beauty standard is a big thing and is already fixed in our mind during childhood . i myself was viewing people through that same lens which were not even created my me but because of my cultural and social environment . i was not even aware of it that im doing it too , i grew up hearing the same thing over and over again which had a effect of my view .

After getting into spirituality and consciousness work  do you still see others and yourself  through that same beauty standards set by other ?

In india , people have a thing where fair skin is connected with high intelligence and high status .

What about your place ?

It varies some. It depends and I can break it down in two ways

Women: Some people think the excessive make up, trying to look "luxury" type is the best, some are fine with a more relaxed look. I'm not super picky, I've found the excessive trying to look rich with generic designer brands and too much make up and cosmetic surgery to be a turn off. I like girls who are a nice mix of natural but also go to the salon regularly and do their nails. There is also the hipster look and just the girl next door look. I think it really depends on the person but women are sort of painted into a corner more here with having to look more stylish and be in better shape.

Men: There are much more acceptable ways for men to look so to speak to be considered handsome. I would say physical features isn't even that high of a priority. It's more so how you dress and take care of yourself. You can have a bit of a beer gut too and it's not really a big deal. Being tall and in good shape helps but it's not mandatory so to speak.

It's funny how just the physicality can change our complete point of view of someone.

There is an old saying that goes “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.. basically meaning that what is beautiful is relative and unique to every human.

It helps to find try to find beauty in everything .. including ugliness. This improves our relationship to God’s design of reality.
