Are Christian missionaries evildoers?

1 post in this topic

When Covid-19 cases hit Brazil, the government ordered civilians to leave the Indigenous reservations.  Many missionaries refused to leave and had to be ejected with a lawsuit.

The missionaries are also aggressively attempting to contact uncontacted tribes even though one case of Covid, or any of the other industrial society diseases could wipe out the whole tribe.

“In a landmark ruling, a Brazilian judge has blocked evangelical missionaries from making contact with uncontacted tribes in the Javari Valley, home to the greatest concentration of such peoples anywhere on Earth.

The judge stated in his ruling that “Uncontacted Indians are especially vulnerable… To make contact with them is hugely risky.”  “

“Uncontacted tribes are the most vulnerable peoples on the planet. Whole populations have been wiped out by diseases like the flu and measles to which they have no resistance, so attempting to contact such peoples during the coronavirus pandemic would almost certainly have been a death sentence for many.”

The missionaries not only endanger lives, but destroy the natural spirituality of the people.  There are reports that they actually compete to be the first person to contact a tribe, purely for the ego glory.  Then when the missionaries are through, the land grabbers come in to take the land.

“I’m not the only one who agrees with this sentiment. In the words of Kenyan activist Jomo Kenyatta:

“When the Missionaries arrived, the Africans had the land and the Missionaries had the Bible. They taught how to pray with our eyes closed. When we opened them, they had the land and we had the Bible.”

The indigenous leaders want the community to be left alone.

“In the meeting hall, Eliesio Marubo listened as the Indigenous leaders spoke, years of frustration pouring out.

“The missionaries search for young people and corrupt them with their ideas,” said the representative of the Matses people.

“When the missionaries wanted to enter our villages, we told them we wouldn’t change our culture,” said the Kanarami representative.

“It would be better if they stayed in the cities,” said another leader.”
