consciousness must be constant. There's a link with truth also, because truth is that which is constant.

Your view on time and space and all that stuff comes into it too. If there is no time and no space, then it's clear that there is still existence/consciousness so that is constant (my original answer). If there is time, then all moments are strung together by time itself, so time is constant - equally for space. In other words whatever feature of reality you choose to focus on, it must be constant in order to be able to focus on it.

To me it seems like existence is constantly changing and non-existence is constantly constant. ?

It can be described infinite different ways.

But notice it's always just what's happening ....which is unknowable.

Anything describing it is just a perspective and is impossible to validate....and who or what could validate it anyways?

That things are just happening and that it's unknowable is also a perspective which one is true?

Yes, it goes somewhere but before realizing where the sound seems to just "vanish".

How do you know it goes anywhere if it's vanished before you've noticed it 'going'? From what you say, all you're aware of is the vanishing.

As you practice this you will see that the sound seems constantly changing but there are places where it disappears completely just as it seemed like reality was dual before realizing it was one.

When you are melting into oneness you are putting your awareness/focus onto the infinitely large (edit: or rather letting go into the infinetely large is a better way to put it) but here I am asking you to put your awareness onto the infinitely small.

Ok, I'll accept that sometimes the sound volume either goes below my threshold to hear it or disappears completely (I wouldn't know the difference without some equipment to measure it).

I'm not sure what you mean with unconsciousness and non-awareness can you put it into context?

"The only constancy is unconsciousness, non-awareness, isn't it? "  My context is the idea that we need some motion, vibration or inconstancy to observe anything, and therefore to have consciousness. Even when we're looking at a stationary object, our eyes are making small micro-movements as we look. A sound is a vibration anyway, but even If a sound is constant and unchanging, our minds tend to filter it out of attention. On the other hand our attention is drawn to movement and change - it's part of the survival drive I suppose.  So I'm suggesting that 100% total constancy is unconsciousness, unawareness, like sensory deprivation + zero internal movement too (no perceptions, thoughts, feelings etc).    I guess it's the opposite of:

If you're an idealist then consciousness is supposed to be the bedrock and so consciousness must be constant. . . .

In other words whatever feature of reality you choose to focus on, it must be constant in order to be able to focus on it.

From what you're saying below I'd say it vanish into unawareness or unconsciousness. To become aware, in lack of a better word, of that do the practice.

Yes, you're on to something here. ??

If you focus on any of your senses are they not in constant change? Like the arising and passing of a feeling or the intensity of a sound? A thought coming and going.

You can put focus on something fixed like a wall and that will feel constant but if you put focus on the change instead then something might get revealed.
