How do you heal trauma, within or outside?

10 posts in this topic

In my opinion there are two things that keep trauma alive.

1- The triggers, which usually rise up in the body, and you can´t control, it´s not just thoughts. ( For example anxiety would be good example of this. Even if you do a lot of meditation and you are used to let go of thoughts if your body suddenly rises up your adrenaline, cortisol, or whatever, good luck avoiding that. )

2 - The ego and the personal stuff. Is not only the triggers, is the ego which each time they happened it makes a personal story about it making the problem bigger than it is. ( The illusory self is identify with its trauma therefore it actually helps it survive it in a way. )

So my question is...

Do you heal the trauma doing "stuff" until the ego/minor self stops re-feeding the personal story ?

Or...

Do you heal it with "inner work", for example feeling them emotions, psychedelics work, "sorting out", "getting to the root", etc?

1- Does it requires BOTH approaches to succesfully heal the trauma?

2- Do you think it´s more important the first one or the second one?

3- Is there a third approach?

For the average person, happiness is found both within and outside. Check out The Happiness Hypothesis. The author Jonathan Haidt talks about that.

True, but vague nonetheless .. for those who are not God realized.

Trauma is extremely complex and requires you go back in time to explore the circumstances and people that cut you deep .. this often happened in your childhood.

You have to bring forth your fear, anger and resentment before you are able to love it, thus being able to set it free. There are many methods of trauma work: counseling/therapy, meditation, journaling, reading books on trauma (system emotions), EMDR, psychedelics. Brace yourself, it is hard (but worthy) work.

Typically, healing trauma will involve a ton of forgiveness..towards yourself, other people and circumstances.

Thanks, very complete answer ?

Are u sure one can go back in time to heal the trauma?

What if i Dont remember? If its usually in your childhood one is now 20-30 years old you really think you can access the memories clearly to heal them/forgive them?

Good question. In my opinion and experience, having seen many people including myself heal their trauma and thereby upleveling their development, inner work and getting to the root is the only thing that resolves it for good.

Getting to the root could involve psychedelics, it could involve psychotherapy, or different healing modalities such as Primal therapy, ERT, or IFS. It is possible to learn to do by yourself even.

Whatever healing modality is used, it has to involve questioning the trigger, finding an unhealed part in oneself that is stuck in the past, and processing the pain it wants to show us, so going through old memories and stories that were buried and suppressed - usually people don't remember the actual things that still hold them back today, unless they are trained to do so.

Here's some examples of things I consider to be surface level:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Replacing good thoughts with bad thoughts
  • "Pushing through"
  • "Overwhelming the thinking mind"
  • Positive thinking
  • Meditating problems away

All these are a little bit effective, but they are a band-aid: if you stop applying them, you're back to square one. Especially when stressed or tired or when life isn't going so well, one typically doesn't have the willpower to consistently apply this thought-replacing trick on themselves for example, and will still end up spiraling.

Better to address the root of it so that it never comes back, and no extra tricks have to be applied in order to feel good day-to-day.

I'll release a video on this in a few days.
