advice for more positive self-talk

I want to improve my self-talk because I always have a lot of negative and disempowering self-talk which enforces my feelings of hopelessness and makes me not take action because I feel hopeless or just sad. I just tell myself how hard it is and I always have the most negative aspect of reality in my self-talk for some reason. I have tried to get more positive self-talk through affirmations, visualization etc but it hasn´t worked, but maybe I was doing it wrong what do I know.
