Tips & resources on resume / cover letter formatting

5 posts in this topic

Hi guys,

Mind sharing any helpful tips and resources are creating a stellar resume / cover letter? My problem is I have a vast array of work experience, but finding it difficult to condense in one page .. at the same time, make it attractive to the person reading it (spacing, color, fonts, etc).

Nobody wants to read a long resumé... get it all on one page in an attractive graphic format, and potential employers will thank you... nobody wants to 'read' a resumé - they want to be able to scan it and get the key facts of who you are and what you've accomplished professionally...

It's easier to critique a specific resume than to give general advice. Too many little formatting things to list, but easy to point out if you see it.

I'd recommend removing all personally identifiable information (name personal contact details, school names, business names) and replace with generic text, then post a resume and we can take a look at it and give feedback. I think there are subreddits on Reddit or maybe forums devoted to resume feedback too.

@Yarco thanks for the feedback. I would have never thought to remove identifiable info, but doing so cuts straight to the actual skill-set.
