Because there's no opposite of living. That's not really a cause. There's no cause for being.

What reasons do you have to go on living? What gives your life meaning and purpose?

I'm alive, it seems like carrying on is the path of least resistance. So I don't need to give myself reasons to live, I only need to give myself reasons not to live: but that sort of ideation is a waste of being alive. Meaning and purpose is just icing on the cake of living.

Yes.

To witness all that I can. The fear of dying keeps many of us here as it's unknown. The stories I hear of near death give me hope that further learning and understanding is beyond that which many of us ffear.

@Gesundheit2 Well.. Saying you don't have a reason to live but just going with the flow and then calling it conscious survival is a contradiction in my eyes.

But whatever makes you happy lol

Can you explain how that is a contradiction?

Please don't tell me that you think that the only way to be conscious is to have a cause to live (or die for).

Imo.. "conscious" implies intention and premeditated living.. Knowing exactly what you are doing and why are you doing it. And that doesn't match with your description here :

I really don't.

And to be clear, I am not continuing life, per se. That would require a will and an effort, which is ego.

Life is happening and unfolding, and I'm simply not standing in the way. I'm going with the flow of things. It's that simple.

This doesn't describe a conscious living but a random spontaneous living.

This has nothing to do with having an "ultimate cause" to live life. For example, I eat because I feel hungry, I know what I do and why I do it, that's conscious eating. I don't eat because I think that I have to use food as a fuel to achieve a certain vision, that would be neurosis.

Now, I can, and I do have a vision and a greater purpose, but I am detached from it, such that I don't care if it gets fulfilled or not in the end. As long as I'm surviving, nothing else matters.

To keep my parents and brother happy and to make sure my pets are not lonely.
Family and pets keep me alive.
If I didn't have them, I don't know... my fear is that if I leave early, then I will have failed my mission here.
