Meditation Technique (the Middle Way)

1 post in this topic

This meditation is an extension to the nutshell + in depth teachings of enlightenment that can be found here:

This meditation technique, is that of the middle path.

Introduction:

I write this technique down, to close the gap between eastern and western. In india observing the breath comes much more naturally then here, because they are rooted in thinking that there is rebirth. This thinking, is not to worry to much, I put effort in it, somewhere there will be a result, and they learned to deal with the side effects. Here in western countries, we think in personhood, and want to philosophy accordingly, applying logic, willing to calculate a result even before we are started. There for I write now this technique down, that converts it, so you may practice it properly as well.

Preparation.

1. Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight.
*2. Observe your breath. And register it, long, short etc.
3. When getting deeper, and more drowsy, mental shapes, have the tendency to move outward, the source to reach is your environment (is not to be reached).
4. Open your eyes and have the tendency to push yourself in. The source to reach is now within.
5. Close your eyes again, and realize that the only thing that is the middle and is straight, is your breath (your breathing happened with eyes open and eyes closed).

The preferred state, is the clear state, that is as if you just sit with your eyes closed, and just sitting so, breathing. Being as close to the surface as possible.

Repeat the preparation, until its clear that the middle is your breathing, and the only thing straight, is therefor the breath.

The pushing outwards, as if the source is outside of you when meditating, is the attempt to get to the fresh state, as if you just sit with eyes closed. That is the preferred state. Do this easily, until keeping it steady in the middle, fully pointed in concentration. The mind will struggle, yes, just easy bringing your attention back on the observation of breathing. IF its to much, no worries, just more repetition of the preparations. Just taste, and start preferring to work with seclusion like this, and you will succeed.

Keep in mind, that Awareness + body= Enlightenment. Or, that which does not leave you to just sit and breath, is disease of the mind. Just bring your attention back on your breathing observation, and push outwardly gently. Don't control (or do by upset, and see that it does not work out well), just manage, influence.

Now meditate. And surely, if done right, you will more and more seem to seclude from the body while not being separated from the body, until this snaps, you realized that Awareness, the all pervasive one, is the one that governs, is without defilements, and without it, the body is like a rotten piece of wood. Your thinking leads to form the brain, and no longer the other way round. What must be done, is done. From here on knowledge builds about the law of action and result related to many phenomenon and how they can cease to exist by practicing in seclusion from unwholesome behavior.

* How to observe your breath? If this is not working for you, and you are puzzled, no worries. Apply the following: Let your observation of the breath be a side effect by bringing your attention to your physical heart. Hear it, feel it, register anything, and keep the speed of the heart measured by your breath. Now, after some practice, observing the breath will become absolutely natural.

What if this is still difficult?

Make your full meditation be based on the heart. When observing, and remaining stationed on it, due to that many sentient beings have hearts, you might see images of this, and that makes you compassionate, because all hearts stop to beat one day. And walk through the states as you go, which there are 16. I am not going to name them, but after the 13th you won't be able to count them further, sound ceases to be, and absolute freedom of enmity happens within you, that leads to the profound realization that there is a save harbor.

During the change of states, just be registering your next stage as the next stage. It changes, and settles, and that is your count.

Surely the meditation just observing the breath and registering, will now be a peace of cake.
