The dualistic world is supposed to be unsatisfying

10 posts in this topic

Is it true that the ego is always unsatisfied?

Can the Self be unsatisfied?

Nahm would say unsatisfying is just a word, look at what is actual.

Someone wrote a song about how he can't get no satisfaction, and it became wildly popular and many people enjoyed it. How satisfying

https://www.etymonline.com/word/satisfy Satisfy- from satis "enough" (from PIE root *sa- "to satisfy") + facere "to make, do, perform" (from PIE root *dhe- "to set, put").

@iboughtleosbooklist the 'ego' is imaginary separation. A 'you' who exists separate from 'that which is not you'.

This is how 'existence' works.

For 'satisfaction' to 'exist', so must 'dissatisfaction'.. to know 'up' requires knowing what 'down' is.

'Existence' is necessarily dualistic.. and imagining satisfaction separate from dissatisfaction is one way the Universe carves itself up imaginarily so that it can exist (seem like somethingness rather than everythingness/nothingness) at all.

Ego will be satisfied as long as things go somewhat according to its own agenda. If its agenda is heavily threatened it’s not going to be so satisfied any more. And the nature of life that eventually all egoic agendas will be threatened by life.

xD That there is a dualistic world is the thought culprit. Unsatisfying points to how that thought feels. Probably feels off. Another way of saying the same thing is ‘two world’. “Two world” doesn’t make sense, doesn’t jive with direct experience. There are not many world. There are not two world. There is not even one world.

Satisfaction is the dream of there being something other than what’s appearing, called fulfillment, which one can obtain more or less of, through their own free will and choice.

See, the possibility of fulfillment in the future, which like you say is just an idea/word, automatically confirms that there is un-fulfillment now. Satisfaction can appear for a time but it’s temporary, and even while it’s happening there can be the subtle sense of “I don’t want this to go away,” if there is apparently me/duality. In that sense, separation is almost always unsatisfying, even if only subtly.

Not necessarily. The ego can be satisfied, but it is finite satisfaction that usually has an expiration date to it.

Awakening is allows finite satisfaction to turn into infinite satisfaction. Be appreciative of dualism, but also be able to tap into something higher through your spiritual work.

the ego is what " should be" and is satisfied if everything is as it should be: world without diseases, no boredom, money to spare, everyone extremely handsome, there should be no old age, and everyone should have a penis 21.5 cm.

The ego can only be temporarily satisfied. It's like Homer Simpson in hell, being fed soul donuts for eternity, and never feeling filled. Chasing after perpetual happiness within an impermanent cosmos is insane.

Desire is fine, just don't let it define you. Realize the Self within, which is beyond desire.

Just because God loves you doesn't mean it is going to shape the cosmos to suit you. God loves you so much that it will shape you to suit the cosmos.
