What do you think about Sri Chimnoy?

3 posts in this topic

So i found a meditation group in my city called "Sri Chimnoy center". Being a bit lonely i decided to try it out. I imagined the process to be sitting in silence, being guided and having a spiritual chat afterwards.

I then got a suprise when i saw plenty of photoes of "Sri Chimnoy" and a altar with a photo of his face when i came into the meditation room.

Apperantly the disciples are meditating with half open eyes and focus on the sri chimnoy face photography. The instructor said that we are asleep if we have our eyes closed. I understand this is bhakti yoga or something indian which i am not familiar with. Fortunately there was a candle there which i could focus on.

There is also a larger room for disciples with a huge picture of his face inwhich they meditate upon. The instructor meditated like this for a few decades and apperantly hasn't yet realised God or the Supreme as they call it.

The instructor usually talks about the guru and his achievements but isn't interested in talking about other teachers like Ramana Maharshi.

Sri Chimnoys outer life seems impressive, even super-human. Ultra marathon runs, UN group meditations and the tens of thousands of art pieces.

Although the teachings in the books seem to give nothing new. There is better esoteric information elsewhere. Most things he talks about is maybe learnt from the Sri Aurobindo ashram.

The instrucor asked me if i wanted to become a disciple of the guru. As i am a open minded person i said "Why not". I was given a seeking photo of him to meditate on for 3 months.

I think i threw the photo into the garbage on the second day. As i just wanted to meditate and not to join any discipleship or something.

I didn't find much information about the organisation but the people are nice there and the center seem to have a positive meditative aura inside.

I'll probably go there a few times and meditate on the candle until i find anything better.

Sounds like a cult, not the word that gets thrown around alot, but cult in the literal sense. An ego devil that preys upon the weak, to make himself a god in their eyes, so he can take advantage of them. Any teacher that makes themselves the focal point, is a cult-leader wannabe. And of course they were all nice, people in cults usually are. That's how they are able to recruit more people. Glad you didn't fall for it, sad for those that did.
