Stanford Psychiatrist Talks Down On Psychedelics

17 posts in this topic

At 1:40:00 of the video they start discussing about psychedelic treatment. The psychiatrist has a biased position against psychedelics. Basically she doesn't believe that taking a psychedelic 1-3 times can stop someone from being an addict.

I agree. Psychedelics can help a lot and can be crucial for healing some deep problems or addictions But you have to do them regularly until you clean all your shadows. And usually the ego always avoids this.

I Dont think either with 1-3 trips you are good to go.

This heroin or meth addicts Who apparently quit the drug after one 5-meo breakthrough dose for example, we Dont know if they have relapsed after 1 year ??‍♂️

I am convinced that after 1-3 trips someone can quit their drug of choice. The increased level of awareness will make you sick to your stomach when you realize the damage you're doing to yourself.

For me, when i was smoking weed, it was impossible to continue doing it under the influence of magic mushrooms. Because i was fully aware of all the BS my mind constructed to keep me locked in into that addiction.

Yes the relapse is possible.  But still psychedelics are the faster way i know someone can get shook to their core and end their drug use.

It is obviously that this psychiatrist no matter how intelligent appears to be has 0 experience with psychedelics, therefore she cannot appreciate the power of these substances.

I am convinced that in the next 50 years psychedelics will render psychiatrists useless. They are already useless for the most part. This is why they end up commiting suicide.

It doesn't matter what she believes. Just because she's an academic at Stanford doesn't mean she knows it all. Actually, she probably only knows the small sliver of knowledge she's a specialist in, and even then, does not challenge orthodoxies. This is how modern academia operates.

So how you are on Life  @SQAAD now? No much resistance? Flowing?

My biggesr shadow is social anxiety/lack of self love etc and i have realized that It all would go away if i could just flow, let go, apply Desire first rule, in the Now. But for that i have to become enlightened lol as long as i believe myself to be tbe ego i Will keep resisting love

Generally i am flowing with not much resistance. What i suffer from mostly is a feeling of overwhelming uncertainty and the difficult part is not reacting to it. But i am doing ok.

I am almost always constantly aware of the breath and other sensations without getting lost in my head like i used to few years ago. 4 years of meditation has definitely helped and is paying dividends.

I suffer too from lack of self-love and tons of self-hatred for my past mistakes. What do you mean by 'apply Desire first rule'?

I have heard testimonies from people who credit Ibogaine for breaking their addiction.  But it isn’t a magic pill.  It requires effort after the treatment.   Psychiatrists are the clowns who make a living by prescribing antidepressants that make life worst for so many people.   Their psychological theories are even more useless.

This is so unfortunately true. In my country, i know for sure that IF you go to a psychiatrist all they will do is prescribe you some drugs that will mess up your neurochemicals. They will NOT do anything else. This is their only tool. Kinda sad.

Also for example, if you ask professionals doctors nowadays about OCD , most of them will tell you that its a chronic disorder when in fact this has never been proven and many people who have overcome OCD (including myself) know that i'ts not chronic if you stop the compulsions.

The disease model which is applied to addiction is very helpful for business. There is a neuroscientist who believes that addiction is not a disease, but a learned behavior and i tend to agree with him.

We are in the dark ages psychologically. We have built computers and sent men to the moon, yet we cannot help people who are addicted and miserable lol.

As i study more psychology and other sciences i realise more and more that these scientists don't know very much about what's going on, especially in psychology. We are still in the dark ages as Leo has stated.

In truth, if someone is an addict, 1-3 trips will not even come close to fixing all their psychological baggage and trauma.

But 100 trips might do the trick.

I am so sick and tired of people treating psychedelics as if you do them 1-3 times and you're good. That's as dumb as thinking that 1-3 therapy sessions, or 1-3 meditation sessions, or 1-3 books will fix your life.

1-3 of almost anything will do nothing to change your life. If you want life-changing results you must do things 100s and even 1000s of times.

A silly joke is funny and not in need of resolution. Maybe I’m reading between the lines too much (?)… but it sounds like the thoughts about the psychedelic are used to perpetuate and support self referential beliefs. Only the non repeating ultimately cures, as the nature of belief is that they’re already not true. Psychedelics are quite effective in showing you nothing you believe is actually true (that a belief actually is, a belief). Listening to how you feel also ‘works’. Sometimes we think, believe and say stuff about ourself that we’d never say about a good friend. That guidance of feeling… that’s a real good friend.

A psychedelic review coming out of Stanford is kind of a joke in itself. Like a review of information on vegetarianism recorded in a meat processing facility.
