No free will, everything is just happening

But the free will debate is pretty much pointless. Because 1: it very much feels like we do have free will, no matter which conclusion we make about the subject. And 2: because it's impossible to know for sure whether we have free will or not. You can only believe that we have or don't have it. And you can believe that you know whether we have it or not.

Or I should add.. I don't always feel that I have free will. For example I can't stop myself from things like masturbating, etc. Completely impossible.

One thing I have been thinking about is.. if we don't have free will, then why is it sometimes super difficult to make a decision? I'm not sure what the english word for it is, maybe "decision anxiety"? And even decidophobia exists.

So why would that stuff exist without free will.

There is 'intelligent will'.

Brains are often in a position of trying to satisfy several desires at once, and sometimes competing desires.

Choosing not to decide is still choosing something.

@Blackhawk ha ha yes, we kid ourselves about our motivations don't we, which are mostly based on feelings and desires like lust, fear (ie survival anxiety), greed, seeking pleasure and avoiding pain  etc which of course we don't freely control. Also something highbrow like a rational search for truth isn't free, because we have to follow the logic and evidence in a mechanical way.

Relax, it's just my loosely held opinion.  :)

@James12345 where did I say there's a 'you' who chooses?

Choices happen. Rivers happen. Thoughts happen.

Everything is happening and no one's doing it.

@James12345 an organism named Mason Riggle, perhaps?

Who is growing a trees leaves?

What's the obsession with there needing to be a 'doer' of what's happening, in addition to what's happening?

To not choose. You just get paralyzed against your will and are unable to choose.

Still no free will.  Nothing to do, no one to do it.

In daily life, we have infinite possibilities to take any route any time. But we aren't actually going anywhere as it is always the formless here and now no matter which direction we take, so the term 'free will' collapses on itself. Nor our true Self ever does or becomes anything permanently or even intermittently().

It's like you can go any place in a boundless ocean, but all you are surrounded with all the time is water.

my mind is gone to a better place.  I'm elevated ..going out of space . And I'm gone .

How do you deal with this ?
What did you change when you realized that there is no such thing as free-will and that life is like a movie ?

Just enjoy the ride.

How could what is happening be different from what is happening?

Also, think of a conversation where talking is happening — if you pause reality at any point during that conversation, if you’re brutally honest, you don’t actually know what you’re about to say. It just comes out; just happens, along with potentially the illusory belief that you know what you’re about to say — that just happens as well.
