Self Inquiry - possible effects and.. mistakes?

5 posts in this topic

Hello.

What are the examples of effects I may expect after doing constant sessions of self-inquiry?

At the beginning of this year (7 months with a break and after that coming back), I was doing some of S-Inquiry work. I would say that it wasn't some huge amount of time daily - something like only 30 minutes on average, not sure. Besides I did it wrong because I was doing some kind of mantra instead of it.

From now (one week) I started again - 2h on average.
I was just curious about your opinions and from your experience. What are potential possible results that a person can expect and after what amount of time?

As I say, I'm not asking about the general rule, because I know that's not like that. I just want to know your experiences.

Btw. Could you please give me some tip about possible mistakes during the process? I would like to make sure that I do everything properly.

Thx :>

Check out YT channel Sifting to the Truth.

What to expect is not to expect. But something that happened quite clearly for me was a situation in which the effort to inquire kind of dissipated and it happened automatically, and then it felt like I was looking in at the world rather than out at it. Like a sort of figure ground reversal. And it was a very intense experience. It wasn’t just a slight perspective shift or something.

I guess the most common mistake (misnomer) people make is to take the self for something that exists in a particular location in the physical body or behind/around the physical body (the latter is also a sign of progress if you don't identify).

Another one is thinking that the self is just some neutral feeling.

Another one would be giving in to fear.

Another one, particularly popular among people coming from mindfulness type practices, is giving too much importance to discipline and concentration

Another one is having some mystical experience and starting to ascribe meanings to it, trying to reproduce it etc and therefore straying away from the self (so to speak).

Thank you guys! I guess that I'm doing it correctly now. I just needed to be certain.
