According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs these people would think about Enlightenment

16 posts in this topic

If you look into the life of successful people or celebrities you see that all their needs except the need for Self-Transcendence are met. They obviously dont struggle with their basic needs like food or shelter. Im sure they get plenty of sex. In their position it is quite easy to meet your social needs like intimacy or friendship. Needs for status and approval are obviously easily met when you are a celebrity or successful. And many of these people have mastered one domain of their life, so their need of actualizing ones potential is also met, for example a successful musicians or actor etc.

But why almost none of these people are concerned with Enlightenment? According to Maslow it would be natural, if your other needs are met that you think about Self-Transcendence, but in many cases that just dont happen.

I have also noticed that those people who are most concerned with enlightenment are those whose lower needs are not fully met.

Whats your opinion?

@actualizing25

Do you mean ‘aren’t concerned with enlightenment’, or were interested, are enlightenment, and thus are aware of the linguistic barrier and the misunderstanding implied in the claiming of, in your regard?

What if ‘those whose lower needs are not fully met’ are gravitating toward not actual enlightenment, like the folks you mention, who are happiness, abundance, and prosperity, but to an impression of, via people who claim it as their own? (Seeing an impression of enlightenment as a solution or resolve, an ‘if I could be like them I’d be x, y, z, happy, etc) Are you seeing the con in the con-fusion of this? (At your own end so to speak) What is a ‘these people’ you speak of? God see’s only God, ego see’s only ego. Infinite can not know finite.

1) Because to become that successful requires a giant ego and obsessiveness which turns into an addiction.

2) Simply because they don't even know enlightenment exists. 99% don't know! The Social Matrix does not make you aware of enlightenment and most people are totally lost in the Social Matrix.

Maslow's model is not really good for explaining mystical or enlightenment-prone people.

The cold hard truth about mystical and enlightenment prone-people is that they are born with special genetics which give them naturally higher states of consciousness than normies. Rarely will a normie turn into an enlightenment-prone person. Most people who become enlightened were usually spiritual and conscious from a young age. Their enlightenment was just a natural fruition of that, rather than a case of them working through Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.

Most of your celebrities and business people are folks with low spiritual intelligence.

Then again, there are exceptions. Jim Carey for example.

Many people do, actually, especially among successful film directors. I get the wibe that most of them take psychs rather regularly as they often try to give you a sense of what it's like being on them through creative direction. You won't even notice it unless you have some reference experiences

Some actors are also woke af, take Jared Leto for example, here is some random interview with him. Don't read into it too much, just watch his state, the interview itself is irrelevant

For me it is not understandable that successful people dont care about enlightenment because someone, who is very successful is in general someone with very much ambition. They are successful because they want more out of life than the average Joe. So they chase success until they get it and after a while they get used to it.  Because of their personality type and ambition the next logcial step would be that they naturally seek for something higher, to want more out of life (this desire made them successful in the first place). So I can totally understand Maslows point here. But in reality it looks quite different.

Enlightenment and spirituality will become more and more popular within the social matrix. Even today more people know about it (thanks to people like Tolle) than 20 years ago.

Regarding your last point: So you are saying that someone, who is interested in enlightenment and interserested in pursuing it, is someone who is more conscious than someone, who doesnt care about it?

No, people who chase success usually get trapped in it for life. Enlightenment is not something they will care about.

Enlightenment is not ambition like normal ambition.

Not nearly enough.

Obviously. You need a high baseline level of consciousness just to care about it.

there are two kinds of people, those who think money is everything and those who think god is everything

my guess would be the latter is much less than 1%

I believe by 'genetics' you mean the right disposition of the brain to just care  about this whole thing.

It caught my attention what you just said. It might sound odd but I was literally fighting with myself in a neurotic way (a while ago) just so that I can get the fundamental  amount of care and productivity built in me so that I can be functional and go after those things. Meditation + nofap + exercise are keeping me functioning. Without them I don't know where I'd be (probably still lost in fantasy land disconnected from existence)

Technically what I mean is: you need a sufficiently high baseline state of consciousness. That could be thanks to genetics or other factors.

There is no getting around your base line state of consciousness. State is EVERYTHING in this work. If you're missing the state, you're fucked. Which is why most people never awaken. Nothing can substitute for lack of state. But you can change your state.

This somehow makes me think of when technology is advanced enough that society could start editing genes in parts of it's population. And A.I is advanced enough to regulate an entire human life cycle, and edit genes from birth and other sci fi techs on humanity that could literally enforce specialised roles per body and mind, like a super advanced version of the matrix.

Well lucky for me I'm discovering that I was actually quite spiritual and conscious as a child, and those meditations are helping me get back at this state so I believe I'm good. I have a strong intuition that I will awaken in this lifetime like never before. Full enlightenment. Maybe this is farfetched but it feels more like I'm returning to this intuition and all my life I've been chasing other things. Deep down I know I'll become a master of this life. I'll do all the hard work like you did

There is this girl at work who has a certain energy that makes me think about this. Like, what past lives lead to her to become like this? Maybe I'm just fooling myself because of her Indian ethnicity xD

yes am in the same boat but remember all thinking is fear

and so the third kind would be the one who drops the thinking

so doesn't think god is everything but knows god is everything by being god

and everything
