Taking Action

2 posts in this topic

I have decided I need to take action in my life. I have been watching Actualized videos on and off for a few years now and I have come to the conclusion that I need to make a commitment to live a life which is actualized, meaningful, joyful, and filled with my achievement of my goals. In short, I want to become happy, healthy, & wealthy. I feel like a sinner sometimes, and I want to move my life in a different direction. Getting the life I desire will probably involve struggle, but I have lived enough of my life trying to live in as much comfort as possible in the short term to know that method is not working. I am currently a college student, and a competent student, but I would like to become a better student. I also would like to develop better self control and organization habits. I have watched Leo's videos on advice for college students and contemplating death, and I realize I have a narrow time window to use to my advantage. I have a bad procrastination habit that I would like to nip in the bud as soon as possible, as it has caused me lots of problems and frustrations throughout my life to my early adulthood. Here are a few habits I would like to get started on to begin my lifetime journey towards self-actualization:

  • I have been on and off with meditation for roughly five months, I sometimes have had good days but I have gotten very frustrated with my current results. I meditated daily up until a week ago. I took a break from meditation because I was frustrated. However, I have come to the conclusion that I have had murky results so far because I meditate at sporadic hours in the day rather than having a firm, set time to meditate. Thus, starting now, I plan on meditating 20 minutes a day in the morning at a set time when I wake up.
  • I would like to start a general habit of waking up at 7 am in the morning everyday. It is a small habit that I think will help me.
  •  I am in good health and in competent shape, but I have had difficulty developing a workout routine and eating habit that will maximize my well-being. From now on, I would like to start eating healthily. I am not into the vegetarian thing yet until I find a good habit and a good source of daily protein and nutrition. I am not a good cook and I am too busy to spend a lot of time with it, but I can start taking action by eating better when I go out and when I eat in the cafeteria. If you have any tips or pieces of advice for this topic, it would be greatly appreciated.
  • I would like to spend 10-15 minutes everyday in the evening practicing Leo's visualization on self acceptance. I think it would help me a lot with getting over mistakes I have made in the past which still bothers my ego.
  • I would like to start updating my journal at least once a week. I am hoping I will update it more frequently once I get more involved and gain momentum, but we will see.
  • I would like to develop unconditional happiness. This is a major goal which may take years, but I would really like to figure this one out. I have no idea how to develop it, but I will figure this one out eventually.

Any insights, tips, pieces of wisdom, or support would be greatly appreciated. I will continue to flesh out my goals over time, and update this thread. A special thanks to Leo and all fellow Actualizers.

My two cents: do not want to become anything. Do not have any desire.

Your text is full of WANTs and DESIREs and BECOMEs.

Remind that any happiness you get is paired with the same amount of pain. They go together.

I can see you don't have any suffering (apparently), nor are you curious about seeking truth. Why are you meditating then ? To become better ? You already are better.

That's all I know so far. Sorry, I am not a sage. But you asked for help and I stopped by to look.
