"searching" is the ego-defense

8 posts in this topic

Just to point to obvious here. "Searching" and the idea of "becoming" or attainment  IS the ego-mind prolonging it's death / maintaining its own illusory existence. What is longed for IS already the case, "what is" (everything / Universe / NOW)   is already  whole and complete.  So it does not matter how much psychedelics you do, books you read, holographic breathing session og yoga postures "you" do - "you" will never attain anything by searching  because there is nothing to attain. "Enligtenment" is an un-doing, a  letting go of the idea that there is a "someone" (an individual/subject) that is in need of something (object) to "become whole". THAT is the illusion. Be still (drop the mind) and let go

@chedegaard yep.. ego exists when it does, and vanishes when it doesn't.   Thoughts of 'I' occur in reality like a whirlpool occurs in a river.. they arise when they do, and disappear when they don't.. but the whirlpool is not the cause of itself, even if sometimes it's shaped in such a way as to perpetuate itself, or eventually destroy itself.

Should the whirlpool ask itself, 'what am I?', perhaps it would conclude that it's merely a function of everything that it doesn't consider to be 'itself'.

While I get what you're pointing at, this isn't super helpful because at the end of the day it's just getting picky about the meaning of "searching".  Undoing could easily be bucketed WITHIN the category "searching".  Searching is not necessarily external, and as long as this is recognized, I think it's still appropriate to recognize that intention is still required from the perspective of the separate self to undo identifications and attachments.

Without intention (aka searching), you will remain separate.  Just because something already is the case does NOT mean it will be known simply by not doing anything.  The Earth was always round, but many lived their lives as if it was not.

I'd recommend that the search continue until the idea of searching becomes silly.  When it is PERFECTLY KNOWN that there is nothing left to search for, you can simply let go and rest in Being.  But not before :)

This message is not helpful at all. If it was "helpful" it would mean there was "someone" who could "use it". And there simply isn't. There is no-one (separation/subject) and nothing missing. Everything is exactly as it is.. bodies, minds, emotions ladida .. being exactly as it is. So if someone tells "you" need "to do something"  the message will always come from "someone" searching, Leo incl, Someone telling "you" there is absolutely nothing "you" can do, the message is "enlightenment" coming from no-one or "someone" who does not believe / has dropped the idea of "separation" / ego-mind . But that said "searching for enlightenment" is still "better" than shooting heroin (which is also "searching". Most people don't even know they are searching. But it is still as funny to witness as seeing a fish in the ocean "looking for the Sea" :-D A cosmic joke that never stop giving

Agreed. Knowing that intellectually doesn't seem to bring the search to an end though.

my mind is gone to a better place.  I'm elevated ..going out of space . And I'm gone .

"knowing" (intelectually) IS the ego defence. You can never "know" (attain) what YOU already ARE. This message is absolute useless for the ego-mind trying "to get it" - it will never happen. But you can "use it" to navigate the spiritual landscape. Anyone selling a story of becoming, attainment, a path or "12 weeks course to enlightenment" :-) is a non-dual message coming from "someone" who is also "searching". A message that says, "you" can do absolutely nothing to become what YOU already are, is a non-dual message coming from "no-one" pointing to the realisation that  YOU ARE THAT already. The ego-mind  will never  accept this massage and in order to "survive" just a little longer  says "this is not useful" :-D and then looks elsewhere and by that perpetuates its own dissolution.  “When our false perception dissolves, misery ends also.”

the message to the ego-mind is that there is ABSOLUTELY NO HOPE. Its utterly hopeless because there is nothing  "you" can do and absolutely nothing to attain. What IS, is  already. Whatever is hoped for will never happen - hoping for something to happen IS the ego-game and the  ONLY thing "preventing" enlightenment. Enlightenment  never "happens" because its ALL THERE IS and it never happens to  "someone" since its  the end of the false perception / believe there is a  separate self that "can become enligtened". There never was separation (just a false belief) , just THIS..   Being/One/Life.. (which are just   word-concepts ). THIS is forever a mystery (un-knowable, cannot be grasped or contained with limited mind/knowledge  )  because its infinite and YOU ARE THAT
