Question about practising self-love

6 posts in this topic

So I suffer from to much self-criticism in mostly things I have no control over like my apperence. In a video leo made called "how to love yourself" He talks about an exercise where you look in the mirror and say "I love and accept you exactly as you are" over and over. He didn't mention making it a daily habit but in another video about affirmations he talks about saying affirmations 5 min daily for around 90 days so that phrase or feeling that the phrase is making is more or less your new normal, etched in your mind.

Would that work with doing the self love affirmation in the mirror? Would it change my limiting beleifs about my apperance to do that for 5 minutes a day 90+days?

It is possible that you aren't very 'good looking'.  Sure you could brainwash yourself into seeing beauty when you look in the mirror, but is that really the best course of action?  My advice is to do self-inquiry into your feelings about beauty in a much more general sense, specifically to find out how much importance you place on beauty compared to other traits which a person or thing could have.  I would guess that considering you're experiencing this dilemma, you value beauty quite highly and tend to interpret things (even things in nature) in terms of their beauty.  Ask yourself, what other traits could a person judge those very same things by, other than beauty?  If someone else valued another trait above beauty, how would that person judge your appearance with that trait in mind?

Tldr; you judge your appearance too harshly because you value aesthetics too highly.  Find a different value which allows you to come to a more positive conclusion when judging your appearance by that value instead, and the positive feelings you reach won't be fake.

It can be powerful. Most important is not to just say it, but feel the vibration/energy of self-love through your heart when you say it. It will make all the difference. And not escaping the emotion of self-doubt as well, but rather allowing it and welcoming it. Then letting it go and then doing the heart centered affirmations. Feeling any tension around the heart and surrendering to that when doing so. Literally feel the region around your heart opening and filling with light. Welcoming all feelings/sensations/thoughts related to self-doubt as well and slowly asking yourself to let go and welcome more self-love. Making this a habit can be very powerful in raising your vibrational state. Each day releasing small % of self-doubt and replacing it with self-love has a cummulative effect over time until the sensations/feelings of insecurity are completely surrendered and let go of. It will be worth it.

Depends on how it makes you feel and if your subconsciousness accepts it.

I'd say give it a shot and see for yourself. Everyone is different.

@kinesin the thing is that no one has ever said that im bad looking, but people have said that i am goodlooking. Its subjective. Isnt better to love myself no matter how I look. Even If I would have been super ugly and heard that often I would want to be able to accept myself. But again good-bad apperence is subjective.

And about changing perspective and so on. I dont value apperence in anyone but myself. Also I dont think trying to neglect a problem of self-esteem is going to fix it.

@JonasVE12 I did that just now and it felt amazing. It was like my perspective shifted. I made the subjective world shift by making a statement. It was like that yanny and laruel video where if you think of yanny you here yanny and vice versa. I will continue for at least 90 days!
