Does anyone else struggle with low energy/constant fatigue?

4 posts in this topic

Hi guys!

I’m 24 and have had T1D for 20 years now.

I really enjoy working out and feeling fit, but I have been struggling a lot lately with low energy. This not only makes it hard to feel motivated to work out, but even when I do work out, I feel sleepy and sluggish during and am not performing at my full potential.

My A1C is in the 6s, I sleep more than 8 hours every night, I drink TONS of water every day, try to keep a healthy diet, my blood sugars are well controlled, and my blood work is all normal. Honestly, I am at a bit of a loss here.

Does anyone else struggle with chronic low energy? What do you do to energize yourself when you need a boost?

Hey Kevin,

Hard to say without a more detail assessment but how's your overall diet, caloric distribution and portion density. I know in TD1 a lot of caution is put on carbohydrates, do you consume them? What sort of carbs and how large are your portions? What about your stress levels? Sleep quality?

Any other medicines you take? Btw do you still have any beta cell functionality or are you 100% dependant on insulin?

@Kevin256  How is your breathing?  Do you utilise your entire diaphragm while breathing, or is it quite shallow?  Do you ever breathe through your mouth?  Have you ever been checked out for sleep apnea?
