How much Vitamin E is toxic? How much is tolerable? How much is healthy?

9 posts in this topic

Hello,

anyone got knowledge on the questions in the title?

Also, I have been getting about 35mg Vitamin E a day for the last 2 weeks, from margarine. Is that too much?

Also, how does a Vitamin E toxicity work on a biochemical level?

All vitamin E supplements are toxic and not real vitamin E, Get vitamin E from real food source.

from margarine

Chug out that margarine into the bin. Trans saturated fatty acids (in margarine) is one of the few things in nutrition that pretty much everyone agrees that are incredibly bad and toxic for you. Once you turn cis-isomers to trans-isomers your body cannot deal with it, it damages everything it comes in contact with. It would be "healthier" to eat butter dipped into lard and wrapped in nutella

But basically, vitamin E toxicity is at risk if you supplement high doses, it is unheard of to get toxicity from food. Also the important question here is what is the ratio of your polyunsaturated, monounsaturated and saturated fatty acids. This goes hand in hand with how much vitamin E you need.

Focus on food, google some top 10 vitamin E foods and add them to your meals. That's as far as I would push it

@Michael569 why? is says "eat cholesterol conscious" on it, so it must be good.

just kidding with you. i wish i could, but there is a reason i am eating that for a period. i won't keep it up my whole life, i hope, cause it then would be a short life.

the ratio of the margarine is 1:4 i believe, it's also vegan. so what's the conclusion for the vitamin e?

@Michael569 What do you think of wheat germ oil as a vitamin E source?

@ilja If you want to focus about quantity regardless of quality (which is super important), the RDA for vitamin E is 15 mg (22 IU), while the UL is 1000 mg (1500 IU). These levels come from the National Academy of Sciences and other institutions. So you have leeway.

I'd prefer regular wheat germ for the added benefit of fibre but the oil is probably ok, never looked into it and never tried.
