No Language Fasting?

8 posts in this topic

No reading. No talking or listening to anything audio. No sub-vocalization. For a prolonged duration.

Language fasting for a week. Has anyone tried this? Would this and meditation have comparable benefits?

How is this post just me acting out my ego in the usual ways? Is this post just me venting and justifying my selfishness? Are the things you are posting in alignment with principles of higher consciousness and higher stages of ego development? Are you acting in a mature or immature way? Are you being selfish or selfless in your communication? Are you acting like a monkey or like a God-like being?

Vows of silence have been commonly used for spirituality. I don’t see how expanding this to all other language interaction would be anything but just more effective. Give it a try and report back ?

Good luck with that. The rest is doable by mere mortals. Although, writing is everywhere maybe only on a nature retreat is it possible to escape.

Saying that, out of all them if you can achieve "no sub-vocalization" for prolonged periods, I think that would give the most benefit. It's impossible to get lost in negative rumination and stories if you don't talk to yourself.

I’ve done this for weeks. What was revealed is what you’re pointing to is already the case (as in. Yes, ‘it works’). No mind, appearance, etc. Similar to how daily meditation leads to the ‘ability’ to turn the mind on and off. If you go forward with it, my two cents would be to ‘merge’ gravity and no mind. To feel the brain / mind / sensation ‘sag’ in a very literal sensation sense. A certain ‘it clicks’ insight / actuality occurs as to vibration, appearance, and relaxation. Ramana Maharshi or Rupert Spira on sinking the mind into the heart might be a good read before, as a primer. If meditation is still experiential afterwards, the ‘quality’ of it is through the roof, and there’s no longer any ‘need’ for a certain environment, posture, sitting, etc. A person who meditated is realized to be meditation personing so to speak.

Another angle you could take is that you could also learn to speak from the heart and only truly listen to yourself when you are and those who do the same. Sometimes it's easier if we don't actively try to avoid something but instead get very intentional about how we use it. Go with the path of least resistance. Sometimes the path of least resistance is going cold turkey or exploring what happens when we do, other times it's realizing that what you thought was an addiction or a personal flaw was an unnecessarily imposed self-judgement.

@mandyjw the path of least resistance is a wise approach with this work. If he’s drawn enough to do this somewhat intense practice, this could be his path of least resistance, or he could quickly find that it seems unnatural. There’s a lot of effectiveness in following your natural inclinations. I’ve found it has been beneficial to my journey.

Thanks guys for the insights, going try this for a week and report back. Will likely do a mixed version, because some human interactions are unavoidable.

This is the most natural for me, strong attraction to this. Im being pulled to this state and need to resist it to function orr else i cant do my job. If i give in to it completely, reading and writing comprehension dips to 0, talking or audio comprehension is really poor... forget basic things.

I want to try giving in to it for a week and see what happens. It feels like im a beige wild animal. Its autopilot.
