Why there is no "brain"

17 posts in this topic

Here's a simple way to look at it..

What is meant is simply that there is no "perceiver" ..as a duality (perception +perceiver)...

You can indeed open a skull and see a brain and you can see your own brain (let's assume that's possible) but these are just perceptions supposedly occurring inside the perceiver brain.. You can see a brain as a perception.. But the Assumed perceiver brain can never be perceived because the perceiver can't be an object of perception. The perceiver can't perceive itself. Just like the eye can't see itself and the knife can't cut itself. So to summarize.. There are brains found in perception.. But the brain that's assumed to be perceiving them can't be found. Was never found and will never be found. Because it sits outside of perceptions.
There is in fact no "perceiver" aside from perception. If you take a look at direct experience.. You can't find a perceiver. All you find are perceptions. If you manage to name a perceiver..notice that's just another perception.
The perceiver "the ego mind" is an optical illusion.

my mind is gone to a better place.  I'm elevated ..going out of space . And I'm gone .

Nice.

As far as perception goes, there's no difference (in quality) between a brain and a chair. All a scientist does is look at a brain, says: damn that's complicated and mysterously grey, it must be doing something complicated. They poke around, find it affects perception and conclude that the brain produces perception. But so does being hungry, yet we don't conclude our stomachs cause perception. I find it weird.

Great insights.

Can the ‘why’ be as dream stuff as ‘the brain’?

That’d make you unthinkably brilliant.

@Someone here

Yes, yes, yes ?

 Because it sits outside of perceptions.

You won't find "outside|inside" in the direct experience. It sits nowhere and everywhere simultaneously.

What a dream, what a joke, love it   :x

It’s as if the lack of evidence is the evidence that there is no evidence.

xD

Ok wow, the "as if" just turns that sentence into an absolute overdose of going meta?

@Tim R

Not sure why, and sorry @Someone here for the tangent... but reminds me of a trip with a friend who for around thirty minutes kept shifting back & fourth between historical laughter, and then a very expressionless straight face asking (yet again)  “yeah, but seriously dude, which one am I?”. I just replied each time, “I’m being honest here man, I don’t know”.  Whenever it comes up we refer to it as the “Dude Where’s Myself” trip.

@LastThursday "They poke around, find it affects perception and conclude that the brain produces perception."

Not produces, but if they realised the brain is perception they'd get it  because there's no duality between physical and conscious. It's only two different thoughts. When I open my eyes, I'm directly perceiving the inside of my brain, only indirectly referencing the outside world.

Relax, it's just my loosely held opinion.  :)

If who takes a look? Who can't find a perceiver?
