I would say it is a strong (of course that is relative) attachment to preserving the ego for even futile (which is of course relative too) positions. But then what is having the attachment? The ego to itself via fear of awareness? Please don't give these mental disorder traits, they are useless unless you can show your core derivations from it. and yes Leo it is Love.
