Basic Stupid Question About Awareness / Mindfulness / Meditation

6 posts in this topic

Hi there whoever reads this.

I have one simple question.

When you try to be aware, to watch your thoughts, to dissolve your ego, to be mindfulness, WHO is that who is watching your thoughts ?

For me there is no room for anyone else when I think. It looks like I am a secvential machine not parallel procesing one. I am not multitasking.

So when I have a thought, I can't watch it, because no other thing can share the same processor time. And by the way, that thing who was supposed to watch me is still a THOUGHT, isn't it ? ( <= possible false supposition, ignore it)

I can only detect thoughts only after they end their trip in my mind. I did my best to find in Leo's videos some clues about who is the watcher, but this is an subject rarely talked about or very vague or missing at all in some videos. He only says: watch your thoughts, not how to do that.

Ok, at the rational level I have a clue, a model of the oneness, the one consciousness in which we are all parts, but I don't want to  resort to rational thinking or modeling when I meditate or I try to be aware. I want to have a direct experience. If so, is it possible that at my very very very low level I could access a tiny tiy  tiny part of THE consciousness to watch myself ? If I do that, I am not aware then about that. It is a way too big hat for my head. But this is only theories , blah blah, or yap-yap in Leo's own language.

Is it normal what is happening to me ? Can you guys watch your thoughts during their manifestation ? <= Finally, this is the question i was talking about.

There is no one who is watching your thoughts. Because there is no self observing anything. Try to localize yourself in direct experience and see if you can. Where are localized in reality?

Yes, it is, so watch that as well.

Seeing through the ego and becoming enlightened is going to take a LOT of effort. You can get tiny glimpses here and there of your true self if you do self inquiry successfully every day. But do not attach yourself or care too much about these tiny experiences. They are not permanent enlightenment.Keep your eye on the bigger vision and take these tiny experiences of "THE consciousness" as bonuses on the way.

Awareness is not a thing, it is the knowing of things.  Watch this, very helpful for those doing self inquiry.@George Paul

Well, I do my best to detach from symbols, Kserkkj, I apologize. For me this concept of "knowing of things" is a thing called awareness. Symbols play dirty with our mind .

Forget about my first post. Just answer this:

HOW DO YOU OBSERVE A THOUGHT THAT IS HAPPENING JUST RIGHT NOW  ?

( I mean when you meditate or doing something , not literally now)

Watching comes as a consequence of consciousness. You cannot practice watching; you can only practice consciousness. Watching comes as a consequence, as a shadow, as a result, as a byproduct. The more you become conscious, the more you go into watching.

So, you can watch gaps between trips. Watch these gaps, as you will become more and more conscious, you will be able to watch thoughts. Just watch. Don't say anything to the thoughts. Don't judge. Don't condemn. Don't tell them to move.
